I shook my head. “You’re distracting me.”

“And it’s working.”

“You could tell them to cut it out.”

She cocked her head, listening intently. Silence responded.

After a minute, she shrugged. “Sounds like they went somewhere else.”

“How do you get any sleep around here?”

“You get used to it.” She grinned while tugging on her tank top. “Or you just get earplugs. Does it matter?”

One pink disc teased me by making an appearance. The hardened nub of her nipple slowly ascended from her top. As soon as it appeared, I was across the room, nuzzling into her soft breast like it was the only thing keeping me sane.

That was partially true.

Her sigh of surrender accompanied by her fingers drifting over the back of my neck reminded me of why I was here. Not for protection, but to protecther. She arched into me and bucked, wrapping one leg around my waist. Within seconds, her free hand was between us.

“Matty, I…” She whimpered when I licked her exposed nipple. “I think we have time to…”

A knock broke my concentration. Furious, I marched to the door with a boner burning under my briefs, the stiff muscle aching for attention. I peeked through the peephole and noticed a fae creature standing just on the other side, an expectant grin and a basket ready for us.

“I know you’re awake,” they called. “I can hear your hearts beating… rather quickly.”

Rose giggled while I rolled my eyes. After locating a clean pair of jeans and breathing my boner down to half-mast, I swung open the door. Rose stepped up beside me, unabashed in her pajamas.

“Bruise!” she chimed while wrapping her arms around the creature. “Sasha must have sent for you because I forgot.”

The fae kept their eyes on me. “I can’t imagine why.”

I squinted. “Don’t push your luck, buddy.”

“You wolves aresosensitive,” the fae teased. “Mind if I join you? I brought some breakfast. Freshly picked this morning and baked by your darling Charlotte.”

“She must be busy downstairs. It’s the weekend, after all,” Rose commented as she ushered the fae into the room.

No introductions. No permission. Just yanked him inside like he was our weekend fling addition.

I shut the door and followed them to the kitchenette attached to the main room of the suite. Rose explored the basket, pulling out exotic fruit to be sliced as well as pastries that Charlotte had baked using various berries. When she plated one for me and slid it across the island counter, I smiled.

Alright, she hadn’t forgotten about me justyet.

Bruise studied me carefully. “You’re the fabled Black Wolf.”

I hummed while biting into the pastry.

“That mysterious charm issomagnetic, wolfie.” Bruise grinned handsomely. “You know, I almost seduced that alpha wolf of the Beaufort pack. Can you believe that?”

“Not a chance.”

They laughed whimsically, the sound resembling all the tinkling chime of a bell attached to a cat’s collar. “What a charming mate you have, Rose.”

I choked on my pastry. Rose spat out her coffee she was in the middle of sipping. Arguments sprang to life on both sides, each of us rapidly speaking over the other to make a point.

But the more we sputtered, the more the fae grinned like they knew this great secret we weren’t allowed to know. With the flourish of their hand, they waved us toward the table near the window. Fae magic parted the curtains. Sunlight dripped into the room and enhanced the oceanic pastel green of their skin. Geometric tattoos crawled in shades of cerulean blue all over their arms, part of their exposed chest, and hands.

The v-neck shirt they wore revealed an athletic build. Long hair flowed over their back, resembling ancient waterfalls. Their energy oozed through the room, shimmering like cosmic stars, the same twinkle of silver in their eyes as I would find in the skies on the darkest of nights in the mountains.
