My breathing labored as my orgasm enveloped me. Adam kept a steady rhythm while nipping my neck, hungry groans echoing in my ear along with hotly whispered encouragements. Soon, his heated words faded into animalistic grunts as he erupted inside me.

Bliss coursed through my veins as I clenched around his cock and practically milked him dry. A frenzied haze of movements exploded then, my body taking the lead while my mind disappeared.

No thoughts. Only him.

One final gasp signaled my exhaustion and I slumped into the pillow, Adam shortly following. The weight of his body comforted me even though he was much denser. Just feeling the way his muscles conformed to me was enough to make me collapse entirely, my limbs totally giving up on any chance of keeping me upright.

I babbled for a few seconds until I cleared my throat. “That…”

“Oh, darling. Yourneck.”

My eyes widened as I touched the sensitive flesh on the left side of my neck. “Oh…”

“Yep, that’s the most glorious hickey I have ever seen in my life.”

“Hickey? But I thought you bit me.”

He squinted as he rolled me over. After careful inspection, he blinked rapidly. “Maybe I broke the skin alittlebit.”

Warm fluid met my fingertips as I shot him a disbelieving look. “Only a little?” Blood decorated the digits. “Yeah, that’s broken skin.”

“Okay, maybe it’s deep.”

“How deep, Adam?”

Silence.

“Adam,” I said softly. “Come on, how deep?”

His lips moved wordlessly for a moment as his eyes shifted elsewhere. Anywhere but me, right? Because he just couldn’t face what he had done to me right now.

This wasn’t just a hickey. If it was bleeding, it meant he broke the skin. And that’s only something wolves did to claim their mate.

“Adam,” I whispered. “You meant to do it, right?”

He fixed me with a handsome grin, one that wavered in the beginning stages of a yawn. He tucked me into his chest and rolled to his side, causing us to slump on the bed.

“Yes, cherry.” He kissed the back of my neck. “I meant it.”

Early morning light drifted into the room. He tangled his legs with mine and wrapped me in his arms, fingers tracing my belly and breasts. His nose took refuge in my neck where he had just marked me.

Realization sparked in my brain.

He meant it.

I blinked back tears.

That means he’s not going anywhere, right?

Chapter 11 - Adam

Nothing could have prepared me for the sticky strings that clung to my face while I wandered through the shop door. While Charlotte moved as seamlessly as ever, I got caught in the entryway, swatting at the invisible silly string that insisted on tacking to my hair.

“What thefuckis that?” I coughed and then tripped forward as if someone had pushed me. “Christ, please, don’t make me do that again. It tasted like bad fae candy.”

“They shouldn’t taste like anything,” the ashen-skinned woman behind the counter argued. “I work hard on creating the best protection spells this city can offer.”

Charlotte huffed. “At a rate higher than the usual.”
