“You feeling okay?” I ask, taking another sip before I lower the glass to the table and bury myself into the back of the couch, loving the way it hugs to my body right now.
“Yeah, just normal pregnant woman stuff, nothing unusual.”
I breathe a sigh of relief and lower down to curl up on my side.
“Good. How many weeks do you have left at work?”
“I don’t know, but I’m fighting with Josh about staying until thirty-seven weeks.”
I snicker at that, imagining her stubbornness.
“Isn’t that late?”
“No. If I sit down at a desk, I’ll be fine. What will I do at home? It will drive me nuts, sitting around waiting for labor.”
“Well, good luck convincing Josh.”
She groans. “I will.”
“Anyway, I want to go shower and eat. I’ll call you soon.”
“You better, and hey…”
“Yeah?”
“Promise me not to stress about the daughter. She’ll love you.”
But I’m not worth loving.
“Mm-hmm. Okay, I’m going.”
“Bye.”
I hang up and read Marc’s text.
Marc:I’m so sorry about earlier. She apologized and said it was just a shock. Are you okay?
Gracie:I’m fine. I bet it was. Maybe we should have said something earlier.
Marc:Yeah, I said it was my fault. I should have said girlfriend, not friend. But to make up for it, I said you should come over to watchCatching Firetonight?
Gracie:Are you sure that’s a great idea?
Marc:I promise she was totally cool about it when I chatted to her. Please, I miss you. I didn’t even get to enjoy snuggling with you this morning.
I don’t know if it’s a good idea. But I would like to smooth things over with Aria.
Gracie:I’ll come, but I can’t stay over. I have to get ready for work.
Marc:Okay, I’ll take whatever you’re willing to give me.
Gracie:I’ll see you tonight.
Marc:Yes, and I can’t wait.
