“Yeah, I bet you’d love to know. Only one week, and you’ll know.”

“You give nothing away,” I say.

And speaking of giving nothing away. Thewoman across from me did the same thing, and that’s the only head I care about right now.

I grab some lunch from the deli, picking up my usual turkey sandwich and salad.

On my walk back to the building, I swear I see Gracie on the same street ahead. I walk a little faster, trying to catch her, but I get stuck at the lights, and she disappears with the crowd.

But was it her or is my imagination playing tricks on me?

I never received a text with her new address.

My phone buzzing in my pocket brings my attention back. It’s my brother, Mateo. “Mat,” I answer.

“Where are you?”

“Just grabbed some lunch. Why?”

“I’m in your office. I came to see you.”

“I’ll be back in a sec. I’m just across the street.”

“You’re grabbing your own lunch.” He snorts. “This I would like to see.”

I tsk. “I grab my own lunch…sometimes.”

He laughs.

It may not be often, but I have done it before. I don’t need to announce it to everyone just so they know I’m competent.

“If you say so. I’ll see you soon.”

“Yeah. A couple of minutes,” I say and hang up, picking up my pace.

Even though Mat and I like to poke fun at each other, he picked the perfect time to drop in. I want to pick his brain on Gracie. Women are so hard to read, and Mat is really good with the ladies, so I’m sure he can help me figure out what to do.

A few minutes later, I pass Cassie, who tells me Mateo’s waiting for me.

Entering my office, I close the door behind me, and Mat helps himself to whiskey from my drink trolley.

I raise a brow. “It’s only lunchtime, and you’re drinking hard liquor. What’s up?” I ask.

“Romeo’s giving me grief,” he says.

“What’s our little brother doing now?”

“He had a woman accusing him of getting her pregnant.”

I lower my bag to the desk and take a seat, looking up at Mat with wide eyes. “You serious?”

“Deadly.”

“And it’s not his?” I ask.

“I’m in the process of sorting it out.”

I smirk and open the bag, pulling out my food. “The fun of being the lawyer in the family.”
