“Show me,” she says, matching my excitement. But I’ve already hit the phone to flip the camera around.
I take her to the kitchen and living room before I walk into the bedroom. “It’s super quirky.”
“Right,” she agrees. “I can’t wait to come over and have wine in there.”
The comment makes me giddy, and a big grin appears on my face. “Yes, please. But maybe wait until I’ve settled in.”
“I’m not waiting that long to see my best friend.”
“Well, make sure you get your doctor’s clearance.” I say flipping the camera back to me.
She rolls her eyes. “Yes, Mom.”
“Shut up. I just want you to be careful.”
“I know. I know. But Josh smothers me enough.”
I smile and sit down on the couch, and it feels like heaven. I could fall asleep, and I just may do that after I hang up with Ava.
“So, what are you doing on your day off?” I ask.
“Not much. Since it’s Saturday, Josh went to the gym with James. He’s been gone a while, actually.”
“Are you complaining?” I laugh.
“Not at all. I get to watch whatever I want on Netflix in peace. I love him, but I hate his commentary when I’m watching my shows.”
I smile. “Exactly. Enjoy the time alone.”
“Are you ready for tomorrow?” she asks.
The thought makes my stomach churn. But it also could be because I need to find some food.
“I’m a little nervous, to be honest. This is a big step, and I just hope the people here are nice.”
“You’ll be fine. You are such a people person; you will fit in straight away. I have no doubts.”
I know what she is saying is true. The bar made me talk to all different people, but it still didn’t calm my nerves.
“I hope you’re right,” I mumble.
“I am.”
My stomach growls, solidifying the need to eat something. I haven’t had a decent meal today. “Well, I think I might go grab some food. I’m starving, and I have nothing in this place yet.”
“Fair enough. Make sure you call me tomorrow. I want to know how your first day is.” Ava smiles and waves at me through the camera.
I wave back. “I will.”
I hang up from Ava and reluctantly get out of this sunken couch in the hunt for some food. And tomorrow, I’ll go in search of Marc.
Chapter 11
Gracie
IfollowthedirectionsI have for Marc’s address. As I stroll, I try to calm my beating heart with slow breaths of New York City air. The nerves pulsating through my veins are higher the closer I walk to him. Turning down his street, I’m actually trembling. Why am I so nervous? I’ve met him before. Heck, I’ve slept with him. And to date, we’ve been communicating every day since my first text.
There is no need to be this shaken.
