Marc:Sorry I haven’t replied sooner, but I had back to back meetings. Now tell me all about this dream.
Gracie:No laughing. But I had this list of things to do with you on a piece of paper. Remember, this is just a silly dream!!!
Now I’m even more keen to know all about this.
Marc:Now tell me what this list is…
Gracie:It may surprise you, but it was all very PG.
-Wake up cuddling and watch the sunrise
-Hold your hand
-Watch the sunset
-Go to the movies
-Get coffee
-A long walk
-Share a meal together
-Dance
Marc:I’d love to do all those things with you…and more, so much more.
I hit send and I don’t get anything back. I try to distract myself by returning to work for the rest of the day. And later, when I finally get home, I take a quick shower and jump in my car because I’m due to meet my friends, Leo and Max, at our local spot for a drink.
“Anyone here pique your interest?” Max asks.
I raise my gaze from my tumbler of whiskey and scan the room. “No,” I deadpan.
“Are you sure?” Leo nudges me to turn around.
Following his direction, I see the redhead talking with a friend, but I shake my head when my body is silent. Not a single thud, beat, or flip occurring when I look at her.
Returning to face the boys, I take a sip of my drink and welcome the burn. The only real heat I’m feeling tonight. Which is fucking sad it’s from alcohol.
“Fine, if you won’t go for her, maybe I will,” Leo says as he looks over in her direction.
“Go for it.” I mumble.
Max looks at me, skeptical.
“I hope she doesn’t mind athletes.”
“You won’t know unless you ask,” I say, flicking my gaze to her and back to Leo.
“Well, it’s better to meet a woman in person and away from fans,” Leo says with a shrug. “They all stand waiting after the game, and when you first get drafted, it’s all fun and games. But when you realize they want fame and not you, it fades pretty quick.”
“No difference for me when they find out I’m a CEO of a successful company.”
Max snorts. “That would require you to talk to a woman.”
Leo nods in agreement. “I have to agree. How long has it been since you spoke to a woman with an interest in being with her?”
“You two suck. It’s none of your business,” I argue, shaking my head.
