My lips press together against a smile. I wasn’t hinting, but I’ll take this turn of events. “Yeah, I do.”
“Iamgoing to marry you, though, Allegra. Make no mistake. Once the time is right and we can have the day you always dreamed of, I’m going to make you mine.”
“I’m already yours,” I say, kissing his neck. “But you know there’s this thing called an engagement, right?”
His laugh is breathless. Guess I’m working him up well, sucking bruises along the hollow of his jaw. “I planned to propose soon, but I thought that you’d want to pick your own ring.”
Also true. Guess he really knows me.
“Well, in the meantime…” It’s the simplest thing to slide the Ossani signet ring off the doctor’s finger, and work it onto my own. “Hey, look! It fits.”
I waggle my hand in front of Raul’s face. His eyes gleam behind their glasses. “Of course it fits. I was meant for you, Allegra.”
It’s a freezing night, but our kiss warms me down to my toes. Just like the snow outside… we’re settled.
