“Damn, that’s so fucking hot when you swallow my come,” he sighed. I lay down next to him and he kissed my forehead. He pulled me closer to him, cuddling my naked body against his. “This is nice, just lying here with you,” he said against my ear. “Are you comfortable?”

“Yeah, it feels nice,” I agreed.

“How’s your leg feeling?”

“Much better. Good as new.”

“I know I keep saying it, but I’m so glad you’re okay.” He looked into my eyes. “You’re my mate and I will always protect you. That’s exactly what I told your family. I think after what happened, your mom’s finally starting to warm up to me.”

I nodded, knowing it would be short-lived. I was terrified of revealing to my parents that Luke had impregnated my friend. I knew it would not go over well. As the thought came to my mind, I started to feel sick again, dry heaving, rolling away so I was no longer touching his body.

“Are you okay, Jasmine? What’s wrong?” he asked.

“My parents don’t know.”

“Your parents don’t know what?”

“Lucy’s pregnant.” I could sense a dread come over him as soon as I said it.

“Jasmine, please, don’t get stressed again. I’ll talk to them. I’ll explain everything and let them know that it won’t get in the way of our mate bond.”

“But how can you promise that? It already has.” I looked into his eyes. “Every time I turn around, she’s texting you. She’s relentless. I know she won’t give up until she has you back. I just wonder if it’s even worth fighting it anymore. Maybe Lucy’s right, and the pregnancy’s a sign that you’re meant to be with her. That the Moon Goddess made a mistake fating me to you.”

“Don’t say that, Jasmine. Please. I know it will all work out. If I were meant to be with Lucy, I would have been mated to her. But I’m not. I’m mated to you.”

“You didn’t even care before. You thought we should all think about it before committing to each other. Why are you so adamant that we should go along with the mate bond all of a sudden?”

“Because I realized I was being selfish and immature. I arrogantly thought my personal will was superior to that of the Moon Goddess. But that’s not the case, is it? At the end of the day, she decides our fates for us, and we can’t circumvent them without creating bigger problems than we anticipated. Anyway, I know that being with your fated mate’s important to you, as is getting married in the temple. And I don’t want to be the person to take that away from you.”

“But those things aren’t important to you,” I responded, a bit taken aback that he was only doing this for me.

He sighed and said, “They’re important to me too. I also went to temple every week with my parents. I guess I just ended up on the wrong path for a little while. Anyway, part of being in a relationship is doing things that make the person you’re with happy. I’ve done a lot of thinking, and I want to make you happy, Jasmine. I don’t ever want to be the reason you’re sad.” He pulled me against him, and the sparks emitted from his body possessed me once again, forcing me to forget what I was ever even upset about, the bond taking charge.

I sighed, snuggling into his chest. It did feel really nice being so close to him. I became calm just by touching him. It was like my entire body craved him, and he was the cure to all my ailments. I could tell that he felt the same way as he held me closer to him, rubbing his hand against my back. We lay like that for a long time, just enjoying the feeling of being with each other.

Eventually, we got up and went downstairs. I was starving. “Would you like me to make you something for lunch?” I asked Luke as we entered the kitchen and he picked up his phone, switching it on.

“Actually, I better get back to the packhouse. I’ve been avoiding work while I’ve been here with you. Not that I regret it, of course.” He smiled and pulled me in for a hug. “But I obviously can’t avoid work forever.”

Suddenly, his phone started dinging. I glanced over to see that text message alerts were coming in from Lucy. I sighed, stepping away from him. He threw his phone into his pocket and looked back up at me. “I have to go, but I will see you again soon.” Then he turned to go to the front door to leave. I followed him, seeing him out. He kissed me one last time at the doorway before he descended the front stairs and got into his car.

As I watched his car drive away, I felt deep within me that things weren’t going right at all.

Chapter 52

Jasmine

OnWednesdayIwassupposed to return to work, but Valerie canceled my shift, saying I needed more time to recover, and she’d see me on Saturday. I tried to argue but she wouldn’t hear of it. Not wanting to sit around, especially with my leg now fully healed, I went to the gym.

I decided to avoid leg exercises just in case. I began with several minutes of stretching followed by different floor exercises. First, I worked on my core by doing crunches, Russian twists, and planks. Then I transitioned to push-ups, seeing how many I could do in three minutes. When I was on the second minute, I sensed a familiar scent and couldn’t help but smile. I completed the last minute of push-ups and finally fell to my knees and looked up.

“I see Miss Alpha’s already back in action.” Blake smirked at me.

“I’m starting to think you’re stalking me.”

“Okay, this time it wasn’t a coincidence. I saw your car parked out front as I was passing by.” He put his hands up. “But I’m due for a workout anyway.”

“Stalker.”
