“I’m pregnant.” I stared at her, wondering if I had heard what she said correctly. I could feel my heart sinking and a sick feeling coming over me.

“You’re pregnant?” I asked, trying to confirm if what I had heard was correct.

“Yes.”

“When did you find out?”

“Yesterday. I went to the clinic and Dr. Luna did an ultrasound on me. Here, I have the picture.” She dug into her purse and pulled out a black photo. I stared at it in disbelief.

“And it’s mine.” I sighed as I stated the fact, knowing in my heart it had to be.

“Yes, who the fuck else’s would it be? I’m not the person that was screwing around with two different people. I was always faithful to you.” She had delivered a punch to my stomach.

“And Luna Sienna knows?”

“Yes, she was the only doctor that was in the clinic. It’s really a messed-up situation—you almost want to laugh.” She shook her head. I just stared at the photo, trying to process everything.

When I didn’t say anything, Lucy continued, “Dr. Luna scheduled me for an appointment for tomorrow morning to run tests. And she invited you to come, seeing as you’re the father.”

Two feelings came over me simultaneously. I was both in awe that I had created a life with Lucy but also sickened by the situation and what it meant for Jasmine and me. I didn’t know how I would tell her. Our relationship had already started so rocky, and this was only going to make things worse. I looked back up at Lucy who was staring at me, waiting for a response. “Yes, I’d like to come,” I replied.

“Oh, Luke, I miss you so much.” She sighed, throwing her arms around me. I hugged her back, enjoying the feeling of being with Lucy again.

After some time, I spoke again. “Lucy, I just want you to know that I will always support you and our baby. I don’t want you to worry. No matter what happens.” I pulled her close to me, smelling the shampoo in her hair. She began sobbing into my shoulder, making my heart sink. I hated how much I had hurt her. I didn’t want to hurt her anymore.

Blake

LukeandIwereseated in the office at our individual desks, catching up on work, when I looked over at him. He was staring aimlessly into space, his eyes wide.

“Yo, is everything all right, man?” I asked him. He blinked a few times, bringing himself back to reality, then stared at me for a few moments. I looked back at him, wondering what he was thinking. I decided to try to make more of an effort to be a friend to him. “I’m happy to listen if there’s anything on your mind.”

“Goddess, I’ve really fucked up this time, Blake.”

“What did you do now?”

“I’m still processing it. I just found out that I’m going to be a father.”

A sick feeling came over me, making me regret ever starting this conversation. “Jasmine’s pregnant? How’s that even possible?”

“No, not Jasmine! Lucy!”

“Holy shit, man. Well, that’s...” I didn’t even know how to finish my sentence.

“I know. I don’t even know how to tell Jasmine.”

“So, what are you going to do?”

“What can I do? I’m going to be a father. I’m going to help Lucy raise our pup.”

“What about your mate?”

“I don’t know, man. I mean, she’s my mate, so I am going to commit to her. I am trying so hard to do the right thing and I just keep fucking up.”

“Well, what do youwantto do?”

“Does it matter? The Moon Goddess chose this fate for me and, at the end of the day, we’re all at her mercy.”

I shook my head, wondering if I should press Luke harder for a real answer. Eventually I decided against it and said, “Well, congrats, man, on the pup. You’ll be a great father. And I’m sure all of this will work out. Just look at Tom Brady. He knocked up his first supermodel girlfriend right before he got with Gisele, and now they’re all some happy, blended, supermodel, Super Bowl–champion family.”
