My mom continued, “Where are these rumors coming from?”
“I don’t know,” I mumbled.
“It’s a small pack, Jasmine. I really hope you’re not acting inappropriately. What will your mate think?” Goddess, if she only knew. Luckily, that rumor hadn’t gotten around yet. I was secretly thankful that Lucy hadn’t started telling everyone, and partially surprised. She wasn’t usually quiet when she had a vendetta against someone.
“Sometimes people just make things up because they’re bored.” My dad winked at me, surprising me. It wasn’t often he took my side.
“Goddess, I hope so.” My mom sighed.
After dinner, I received a text from Blake.
Blake Sexy AF: I hope you didn’t forget you owe me a ride and lunch
Me: Take your pick of almost any day. I have no life anymore.
Blake Sexy AF: Tomorrow
Blake Sexy AF: Come to the packhouse at 10?
Me: Can we meet somewhere else please? My car can no longer be seen at the packhouse
Blake Sexy AF: Sounds like you’re in trouble
Blake Sexy AF: Wild guess... your car isn’t banned from the library yet? Meet there?
Me: Haha no it’s not. I’ll meet you there tomorrow at 10
The next morning, I waited until my parents left at eight fifteen and then began preparing us lunch for the day. I checked through the fridge to see what we had and ended up making Italian sandwich roll-ups and pasta salad. I also packed some Oreo cookies. I placed everything into a small tote bag and got in my car to meet Blake.
I pulled up next to his car at the library. He moved from his car into the passenger seat of mine, and we sped away from the pack. He gave me directions to our secret spot where I parked at the side of the road. We hiked up the mountain and sat down to eat once we got to the summit.
“This is really good.” Blake smiled. “You’re on lunch duty from now on.”
“Thanks,” I replied.
“So, why can your car no longer be seen at the packhouse?”
I groaned. “I guess there are rumors around the pack now. People have seen my car at the packhouse, and they saw you kissing my eye the other day. So now everyone thinks we’re involved.”
“So, let’s get involved and make them true. They’re already talking, so why not?” He smirked.
I lay back and groaned again. “My life’s a disaster right now.”
He lay down next to me. “How so?”
“Neither my best friend nor my mate is talking to me anymore. There are rumors about me around the pack. I’ll be lucky if I get Bs in my classes this semester, I’m doing so bad at school right now.”
“So, I take it Lucy knows about Luke now?”
“Yep, she called me a rat.”
“Why’d she do that?”
“Because Luke came over when I was in heat and things got really, well, heated. Of course, that same day Lucy happened to show up at the packhouse and smell me all over him. She assumed the worst, not that I really blame her. That’s probably not the best way to find out your best friend and boyfriend are mates.”
“Luke went over your house when you were in heat?”
I felt myself blush. “Yeah, he did.”
