“What was I doing?” I asked, pulling away from his neck.

“You were about to mark me,” he replied, his words a bit muddled, from having to speak with large canines.

“Does this normally happen after sex?” I asked, my words muddled too.

“No, no it doesn’t. Only when you sleep with your mate. To be honest, I’ve never had this happen with anyone except Ria. It’s kind of freaking me out. I had the urge to mark you too.”

“Oh,” I replied, not knowing what to make of what he was telling me.

“Just wait it out. They’ll shrink again,” he said, kissing me on the forehead, getting up, and walking to the bathroom. He returned moments later, after my canines had shrunk back down to normal size, and crawled into the bed next to me, pulling the covers over us and bringing my body against his.

“What does it mean that that happened?” I asked.

“I don’t know. As far as I know, if you want to mark someone who’s not your mate, you have to intentionally do it. It doesn’t just automatically happen like with a mate.”

“Mm,” I replied, thoughts swirling around my head.

“Don’t worry about it too much tonight. Let’s just enjoy being with each other,” he said, spooning me and putting his fingers through my hair. “The night started out shitty, but ended pretty epic.”

“Are you okay, Blake?” I asked, suddenly feeling terrible that we did this on the night of his father’s funeral.

“I’m feeling much better now,” he replied. “What better way to celebrate my father’s life than to do exactly what he enjoyed the most?” He gave a soft chuckle. “Not that that’s something I exactly want to think about right now.”

Chapter 66

Blake

Itwasanamazingnight. We had round two and round three after the first, barely sleeping. Then, the next morning, after we woke, we had round four. I was practically singing as I drove Jasmine home and dropped her at her parents’ house.

I snuck into the packhouse and quickly showered and got dressed. Then I made my way downstairs to the office where Luke was already at his desk, concentrated on his laptop.

“What’s up, what’s up!” I said as I walked in, a big smile on my face.

“You’re in an oddly good mood this morning.” Luke looked up at me.

“Too much coffee. Maybe I should get some more,” I said, getting up and heading to the kitchen. I quickly poured myself a mug. “Good morning, Connie!” I sang out, looking over at her preparing some food.

“Good morning, Alpha.” She looked at me oddly. “Would you like me to make you some breakfast?”

“Yes, that would be great!” I smiled, taking my mug and heading back to the office, whistling.

“So, what’s good?” I looked at Luke.

“You’re acting very strange this morning,” Luke replied. Then he did a double take and asked, “Did you get laid or something?” After a second, he said, “Actually, never mind, please don’t answer that. I’d rather not know.”

I sat down at my desk and turned on my laptop. While going through my emails, I noticed one from the priest asking me to stop by the temple that day to pick up my father’s ashes. This was perfect timing as I wanted to speak with him anyway. I got up and almost bumped into Connie as I was walking out of the office.

“Your breakfast, Alpha,” she said.

“I’ll take it to go,” I said, grabbing a couple of pieces of toast off the plate and walking away.

As I walked down the hall, I heard her say, “What’s gotten into Alpha?”

I exited through the front door and walked down the street to the temple. I entered and walked to the priest’s office to see he was sitting at his desk with the door open. “Good morning, Bernard,” I said as I walked in.

“Good morning, Alpha. You must be here for your father’s ashes?”

“Yes, I am, but I actually also have a personal question, if you don’t mind.”
