“Thank you for allowing Jasmine to celebrate my birthday with me.” Blake put his hand out to shake my dad’s. My dad took his hand, smiling, and Blake continued, “You have such an amazing daughter. I hope you’ll continue to allow me to spend time with her.”

“Of course, Alpha.”

“Good, I’m looking forward to seeing much more of her then.” Blake smiled. Before he exited, he turned and said, “Have a good night.”

“Good night, Alpha,” my dad replied. Then he turned to me and said, “Nice man.”

Chapter 61

Jasmine

ThefollowingWednesday,Ifinally returned to work. I walked in at seven thirty, ready to position myself for the morning rush. Before I could station myself to begin making drinks, Valerie pulled me in for a hug, taking me aback. There was a line of customers to serve, so she quickly let me go so I could do my job.

Once the café was empty, she came over and said, “Are you okay, Jasmine? I heard everything that happened. I’ve been worried. You haven’t responded to any of my texts.”

“I haven’t been replying to anyone’s texts,” I replied.

“Why not?”

“It’s just too much right now. I don’t really want to talk about it.” She nodded and moved to the back. I grabbed the spray bottle and a rag so I could clean up the café. At least I made it to work. That was progress. I just had to make it until four and then I could go back to my bed until Saturday.

I returned to behind the register after I finished cleaning, ringing in the few customers that came in. Suddenly, a familiar figure entered. I watched as the tall, muscular figure walked toward me, his piercing blue eyes staring at me. “I knew I’d find you here.”

“Hi, Blake,” I replied.

“You don’t reply to my texts so now I really do have to start stalking you.”

“Don’t take it personally. I don’t reply to anyone’s texts. So, what can I get you today?”

“Large black coffee,” he replied.

I entered his order into the register and said, “That’ll be two fifty-nine.”

“I wasn’t done with my order.”

“Oh? What else?”

“I want a date.”

“A date?”

“Yes, a date with Miss Alpha.” He beamed.

I took a step back, my eyes widening in surprise. “I didn’t think that was your thing. I thought you just liked playing the field.”

“I’m trying something new. I’ll pick you up on Friday evening at six. That should give you plenty of time to mope around and not reply to my texts before you have to get ready.” He smirked, pulling out his credit card and inserting it into the card reader. I quickly made his coffee and handed it to him. He took it, staring into my eyes, and said, “I look forward to it.” Then he turned around to leave.

As soon as he exited, Valerie came to stand next to me and said, “Hmm, looks like Mr. Hot Sexy Alpha’s back. And I don’t think he wants to be your friend.”

“I can’t figure out what he wants.”

“Seems pretty clear to me. You’re too much in your head sometimes. Just enjoy your date on Friday, and tell me all the details on Saturday.” she smiled, turning around to return to the back.

Thenextday, mymom left me a grocery list and a note to pick up my grandfather’s prescription at the clinic. She came into my room before she left for work to bring me breakfast. I moaned as she handed me the paper.

She rolled her eyes and said, “You come from an alpha family. Now stop pretending you’re so weak. I know you better than that. I let it go last time, but this time I won’t. There better be groceries in the fridge when I get home tonight.”

I skimmed the list and asked, “Why can’t Grandpa get his own prescription?”
