I check my watch and realize that Connor should’ve pulled up with Demi almost an hour ago. I know L.A. traffic can get crazy, but damn.

I can’t wait to see her in the outfit I picked out with Amy, and to see her reaction to how I set up the beach where we had our first kiss.

I hear a car approaching and tighten the tie around my neck to make sure it’s still good. This was my first time ever wearing a suit and it doesn’t feel like me at all. I mentally go over what I’m going to say as I hear a car door slam.

“Canon!” Connor yells from behind me, “we have a problem!”

I whip around to see him leaning against the driver side door with a bandage wrapped around his head. He has scrapes and scratches going down his arms, and blood on his shirt like he just got into a fight with a deranged cat.

“The fuck happened to you? And where’s Demi?” I look around him and notice that he’s not driving his Audi, but a random pick-up truck.

I walk quickly over to him so that he’s not yelling like before.

“That’s what I’m trying to tell you. Somebody took her.” My vision goes red when he recounts the story. “When I regained consciousness, a red owl was spray painted on the passenger seat.”

“The fucking Owl Brotherhood. Fuck!” I scream and punch the hood of the car.

“I realized I was close to the gym, so I managed to get there and get looked at by the in-house medic before borrowing the owner's truck.”

I turn around and practically run to my car.

“Where are you going?” Connor yells from behind me.

“To get my girl.”

“I’m coming too,” I hear his footsteps behind me.

“It’s too dangerous, and you’re hurt.” I turn and say to him before opening the driver side door.

He opens the passenger door and gets in.

“You helped me, now it’s time I helped you. Besides, Demi is basically my sister.”

I just nod and peel off onto the road.

I knew the Owl Brotherhood would find out it was me who stole their supply. I just didn’t think they’d wait it out this long. They aren’t usually the logical type. They’re the attack and worry about the repercussions later type.

Connor groans in pain beside me and I glance over, assessing his injuries.

“I thought you got those taken care of,” I say.

“Yea, but you can’t put a Band-Aid on bruised ribs. I’m used to the pain though.”

“Get hit a lot in the ring?” I ask, trying to keep my mind off what’s happening to Demi.

“Used to. Til’ I learned how to fight back,” he chuckles then winces in pain.

My phone rings and Rouis’ name pops up on the car's screen. I’m about to answer when an unknown number sends me a location.

It has to be the people who took Demi.

I click on it and realize we’re about 15 minutes out from where Demi is, so I pull over.

“Get out.” I tell Connor.

“What? This is a set-up like hell, you need —“

“Get. Out.” I say it with all the venom I can conjure up. I don’t want to have to worry about him when I walk into whatever this is.
