Canon

Always

It’s barely a conversation, but for some reason it has my insides warming up and calming down. I admit I thought he didn’t want to talk to me again after he realized the beach incident was a mistake.

I climb back into bed with Amy and mentally recite the prayer I say every night, asking for protection over my parents. I slip Canon in there too for good measure before dozing off.

Chapter 16

Canon

I need space.

Space from the nagging questions.

Space to clear my head.

Space from her.

She’s starting to make me feel things I’m not trying to feel. I never get attached to girls I hook up with, but I can feel my body starting to seek her out whenever I’m in the house.

And all we did waskiss. I know every time she enters the room because she smells of everything I never had.

Happiness and potential.

I press my foot into the pedal a little harder, sending the car flying down the road. The drive is so smooth, I can barely tell I’m going way over the speed limit.

It’s so late at night that there shouldn’t be too many cops out to pull me over.

I make my way to the city, not really having a set destination. I just need to be…somewhere.

Los Angeles at night is a sight to behold. The clubs and bars are packed to the wall with excited and sweating bodies. The streets are filled with tourists and people looking to have a good time.

It’s the best place to sell product, which is why this is the Owl Brotherhood’s stomping grounds.

I’m turning right at a red light when I notice a crowd forming outside of one of the bars on the corner.

I shake my head at the idiots about to start fighting when I notice I know one of said idiots.

“Just keep going, Canon. It’s none of your business,” I whisper to myself, but my hands are already turning the wheel so I can pull the car over to the curb.

The shouting gets louder as I shove my way past all the people just standing by and watching.

“So, you’re just mad I beat your ass last week,” Connor’s voice hits my ears first.

“Please. A skinny ass, spoiled, rich little shit like you got lucky. I was hungover,” replies a huge bulky dude that resembles a knock-off version of Jason Momoa , just pudgier and not attractive at all.

“I guess I got lucky when I fucked your wife too, huh?” Connor smirks, but fake Jason starts to roar like he belongs in somebody’s jungle. He lunges for Connor, but Connor is quick on his feet, dodging just in time to swing and hit him with a side jab. Fake Jason stumbles but recovers, swiping his leg to trip Connor, but as Connor falls, he pulls on Jason’s leg, making him fall to the ground with him.

Connor uses this to his advantage, climbing on top of fake Jason, using his knees to pin Jason’s arms to his side while Connor rains punches to his face.

“Shit,” I say under my breath as I see a crowd of guys rushing towards the scene to help fake Jason. I notice red flags dangling from their pockets, showcasing that they’re part of the Owl Brotherhood.

I enter the circle just as they do, punching a dude that tries to hit Connor from behind.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” Connor yells over his shoulder. I'm fighting off the other guys and manage to knock them all down at once.

“Apparently saving your stupid ass,” I say as I grab Connor’s bicep and yank him off fake Jason. “We have to go.”
