Out of nowhere, Phoenix slipped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his side. His head tipped down so he could speak into my ear, and I could hear him over the cacophony of shouted questions and camera clicks. “When we get a minute, I wanna talk about that middle name, BriarRose.”

I choked. “Yeah, let’s not.”

“Fine, but you are totally spilling the tea on your mom’s obsession with my brother. What was that about?”

“She had him down as one of her five celebrity freebies.”

Phoenix jerked away and stared at me with wide eyes. When I didn’t say anything more, he laughed so hard he had tears in his eyes. “Oh my god! I can’t wait to tell King.”

I shook my head frantically. “You’re not. And don’t say anything to my mom!”

“No promises.” Phoenix grinned mischievously, and I groaned.

But still I felt lighter than I had before as we entered the boutique.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

King

This was turning into the longest day ever. And I had to push through it with the knowledge that everyone had seen the pictures.

Three people had commented on my glutes, two had thanked me for the free promo, since a few outlets had mentioned our current project, and one asshole had asked where I’d hired my nanny since hisdidn’t put out. Despite my strong desire to punch the son of a bitch, I’d given him a cold glare and shoulder-checked him on my way by.

I didn’t have the bandwidth today foranotherscandal.

But apparently the shitstorm wasn’t done raining on me. In what was becoming a habit, my publicist Jayne waited for me outside my trailer.

I sighed. “Hey, Jayne. Who fucked up this time?”

“Huh?” She shook her head and laughed lightly. “No new fires. I just wanted to get your thoughts on a few things. Plus, since you don’t have an assistant, I’ve been getting some of the calls that Adam would’ve usually fielded.”

“Fantastic.” I unlocked my trailer—because I didn’t trust anyone at this point—and waved her inside. “Let’s get this over with quick. I want to video call Zoe.”
