A guard walked in. “Sir.” He turned to me. “A car is waiting for you.”
“Don’t ne—” My phone rang, interrupting me. I caught sight of Luxious’s name with a bunch of hearts around it.How in the fuck has that happened?
“How did you get ahold of my phone?”
“Come on. We need to get to school on time.”
“That doesn’t answer shit.” I stood up.
“Come on, Corpse. You can sit on my lap,” Hawke said.
I grabbed my bag and headed for the door. At least the ride to school was taken care of. I stopped as Richard continued to talk to me.
“Remember what I said,” Richard said.
“As long as you remember she might be a love-sick idiot, but there is a reason she’s survived this long. Touch her again, and you’ll see why.”
I hadn’t had to do anything to most of mom’s past boyfriends, except one. Still, I’d indebted myself further to Wakeman for that one, and I’d do it again if need be. I just wish mom could see what I saw.
The sun greeted me the moment I stepped outside. Luxious’s black Range Rover sat there waiting. The back door popped open, and Hawke’s smiling face appeared. He had another piercing on his face and one in his eyebrow.
Did he get bored and start poking holes?I’d be lying to myself if they didn’t make him even hotter, but Hawke didn’t need help in that department. I stepped up to the car.
“Should I ask why you two are here?”
“You can, Corpse, but only after you’re on my lap.” Hawke pulled me in, and I gave up, half sitting on his lap and the seat.
“Where are the other two?”
“Greedy,” Hawke teased. His warm breath brushed along my ear. A shiver raced down my spine, and I fidgeted on his lap. I’d been so angry just a few moments ago, and now that I was in Hawke’s lap, I was trying to force down the lust he stirred in me.
“Rem rides her bike to school, and Samson is dropped off by limousine. Haven’t you ever noticed?” Luxious asked.
No.
“You need to pay better attention to your surroundings,” Luxious said.
I flipped him off. “I wouldn’t piss me off today.”
He cocked a single brow at me, undoubtedly waiting for me to explain myself. Still, that wasn’t happening. The drive was going peaceful, all of five seconds. Hawke’s arm wound tightly around my waist, and he pressed his lips against my bare shoulder. I’d gone with an off-the-shoulder cream-colored shirt. It was still warm enough to get away with it.
A breathy sigh slipped free.
“Corpse, who was that guy who picked you up?”
My back stiffened, and I turned my head to look Hawke in the eyes. “Why?”
“Because I’m going to kill him,” Hawke said.
“No!” I didn’t hesitate as I turned fully around and straddled his waist. “I mean it, Hawke. Do not touch him.”
He stared at me with confusion written all over his face and maybe hurt. I cupped his cheeks and leaned close. I had no idea what I was doing, but that was always the case with Hawke. It was more of an instinctive reaction when it came to him.
“You too, Luxious. I mean it,” I said.
“You have no say so over what we do.”
I turned and caught his gaze in the rearview mirror. Our gazes locked for a short second. “Lux.”
