By the third drink,I was feeling a lot better, and Samson was great company. He didn’t talk my ear off and just tended to watch me. I could deal with that. I blinked long, and I opened my eyes. Rem stood before me.
Fuck, she is sexy as hell.Rem was decked out in all black instead of the t-shirt she normally wore. She had on a tank showing off her muscular arms and tattoos.
Rem leaned over and tilted my chin up. “Hey, Corpse, why didn’t you come upstairs?” Her raspy voice did things to me that I should be ashamed of.
“Why didn’t you come down sooner?”
Rem burst out laughing and let me go. Instantly I missed her touch, and I chastised myself. What the hell were they doing to me?
“I thought about it, but—”
“Rem, there you are.” A group of girls came running over to her.
“But you were busy,” I said. The agitated feeling was back, and I wanted to do more than pull their hair. If I broke a few noses, would it be so bad?
“Hey, ladies.” Rem smiled at them, and they giggled. They moved closer, touching her, and she wrapped her arms around them.
“Aren’t you coming back up? We didn’t get to have enough fun.”
“Yeah, Rem, please,” one whimpered.
“Corpse, what’s the matter?” Rem asked as she untangled herself from the girls and moved toward me.
I was up off the bench in seconds. My emotions were all over the place, and it had everything to do with how my night started. And nothing else. All the kings were nothing more than an annoyance. We had some moments. They didn’t own me, and I didn’t own them.
“Nothing.” I looked at Samson.
He was studying me a little too closely. I needed to get out of there. Turning on my heels, I headed back toward the house, ignoring Rem calling for me or the way those girls started whining to her. Why was I so angry? So what if she was with other girls? We kissed one time, and bam, I was acting like she asked to marry me.
“Corpse!” Hawke popped out of nowhere, and I slammed my fist into his hard abdomen before I knew it was him. He laughed it off as if a fly had landed on him. “I missed you too.”
“What are you talking about?” I placed a finger over his mouth, brushing along a new piercing. “Never mind, I don’t have time, Hawke.”
I moved around him and headed toward the kitchen. Phone in hand, I thought about texting Mac. I was ready to go, and the hour I’d promised had long passed. Remembering that his complication was here, I didn’t want to ruin his time just because mine was over.
A heavy sigh dripped from my parted lips as I fixed another drink.Maybe I’ll just sit down and wait.I glanced around until I saw another hallway. I headed that way with Hawke on my heels. There were so many people there, some I recognized but most I didn’t.
I opened a random door and stopped short. There sitting on a bed, was Luxious with a woman I’d never seen before between his thighs. I was not sure what came over me. Maybe it was the last straw, or maybe my anger and frustration had finally found someone to release themselves on. Either way, I stormed into the room. Luxious was up in a second, catching my fist right before it connected.
“Angry?” The smirk on his face only infuriated me even more.
“Fuck you.”
My heart thrashed wildly against my rib cage, making it hard to breathe. I knew he was a piece of shit, but what had I expected?
“Luxious, darling, who’s this?”
My eye twitched, and I thought about killing him for a whole ten seconds. He smiled at me as if he had read my mind and knew exactly what I’d been thinking.
“This is my newest pet.”
“The fuck I am!”
“She’s different than I expected.” The girl walked around and offered her hand. “Hi, I’m Jennifer, Luxious’s sister-in-law.”
I blinked rapidly at her. “What?” She’d been kneeling in front of him. I looked at Luxious, and he laughed.
