“I need you to come pick me up.”
“Car troubles?”
I glanced over my shoulder. I’d have to figure something out. Maybe I could take some of the money I had saved and buy a car from MJ.
“Something like that.”
“Where are you?”
“Walking, I’ll share my location.” I pulled the phone away and hit the button, giving Mac access to where I was.
Shit, either I was so pissed that my normal warning bells were dulled, or I was starting to trust Mac even more.
We pulled up to a mansion, much like all the other houses around here. “Does anyone live in a normal place?”
Mac laughed. “This is normal.” He got out, and I followed.
I was determined to get my mother and her husband out of my head. To worry about myself for a bit.
“Ready?” Mac asked.
“Depends. Is there going to be some ridiculous theme or game?”
Mac shook his head. “Not if you don’t want to take part. There’s everything money can buy here.”
My stomach twisted. “Anything?” I caught up with Mac’s long strides.
“Everything. From escorts to the top drugs.”
I shook my head. “Rich people really do cause their own trauma sometimes, huh?”
Mac shrugged at me, but he didn’t dispute the claim. We walked through the door, the lights were dimmed, and music blared through the area. It was just like any house party I’d ever gone to, except maybe a little more high-class. Lines of white powder rested on the table in perfect lines, with five girls and some guys sitting around it.
“Wow, just out in the open, huh?”
Mac followed my line of vision and nodded. “One rule, no one records here. Nothing that happens at these parties can be used as blackmail.”
“And who makes sure that doesn’t happen?” Before I even finished asking the question, I knew the answer. “Never mind.”
Mac smiled at me, but he turned his head up. I followed by spotting four sets of eyes trained on me. Rem, Luxious, Hawke, and Samson all stared down at me with varying intensity in their eyes.
“Not creepy at all. They’re looking down on the presents.”
Mac covered his mouth as he laughed. “Looks like you are being called to join them.”
I rolled my eyes and gave Luxious my middle fingers, ignoring his summons. “Yeah, well, I’m here to get drunk. Not deal with the kings.”
Mac cocked a brow at me but didn’t argue. “Come on.”
We headed to the extravagant kitchen, which was filled with more people drinking and talking. Mac slipped between people with ease as I stayed back. It wasn’t too long before he brought me a beer and a cup full of vodka.
“The beer is the chaser?”
“You said you wanted to get drunk.”
“Yeah, drunk, not end up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning.” He attempted to take them away, but I snatched them back. “I didn’t say I wouldn’t drink them.”
We clinked our cups together, and I drained half of the cup, gulping it down. The burning liquid lit a fire down my throat and radiated throughout my chest. “Uh.” I chased the taste with beer and wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.
