“And they will get bored of trailer trash soon,” another spat.
I was stuck on the kings getting involved. Them claiming me hadn’t stopped the rich from trying to bully me, but apparently, it stopped them from what exactly? “What are they stopping?” I asked.
The girl in the middle rolled her yes. “Like you don’t know. You haven’t been sued or your family ruined.” She huffed as if it was common sense. She stepped toward me, and I had half a mind to break her nose too. “Once they’re done using you, you’re as good as dead.”
“I’m shaking.” I turned away from them, done with the bullshit scare tactic.
They couldn’t do to me any worse than what my mother had already done. My real problem was it felt like I was in debt to the four kings who ran this bitch. My luck was never any good. The bitchy crew was left behind. As I exited the classroom, a group of football players waited outside.
“Causing a scene, trash?” Frances asked.
It was like being faced with a chipmunk. He hardly felt like a threat, even with the players behind him.
“I’m more than happy to give you one.” I forced a smile on my face. All I wanted to do was go eat and relax for an hour. Was that too much to ask for?
“You should be in jail,” Douglass said.
“Put me in another cage, and I’ll break every fucking bone in your body.” I hated him the most.
He flinched back but recovered quickly. There were ten of them and one of me.This is bullshit.
“Is there a problem?” Mac’s smooth voice broke through the tension.
Frances tisked, and they turned away.
“Any reason they’re afraid of you?” I asked once they walked away.
Mac smirked. “Because I can kick their asses?” He laughed as I stared at him. “He cleared the hall of anyone who was loyal or afraid of the kings enough to go to them. That’s why I came rushing over here. And you have a deep connection with Luxious.” Mac shrugged. “We have a beneficial partnership.” He winked at me. “You are a lot closer.”
Remembering just how close I’d gotten to them pulled a groan from the deepest pits of my soul. My stupid body heated, remembering how good Luxious felt and how many times he’d made me scream. My ass had been sore for fucking days.
“I’m guessing it’s not just Hawke,” Mac said.
There was no judgment in his tone, not that I cared. I belonged to no one. I grunted in response, not willing to out my stupidity. If it wasn’t Hawke pulling me away, it was Luxious. Rem was no better. She flirted, and I was certain she knew the effect she was having on me. Samson, well, he was fucking Samson. My phone buzzed, and I pulled it out as Mac and I headed down the hall.
“I’m surprised you don’t have one hanging off you now.”
I let out a dry laugh. “You and me both.” For a split second, I wondered where they were. It was rare for me to be left alone for too long, especially lately.
Mac shook his head. “What happened to ‘I’m going to stay far, far, far away from them’?” He attempted to imitate my voice making his natural baritone high-pitched and whiny sounding.
I punched him in the arm, trying to hide my smile. I’d missed him more than I thought. It was weird. I’d made friends in my old school, yet the moment I left there, I hadn’t missed them at all.
“Don’t be an ass. I don’t sound like that.” I shrugged. “Kind of hard when they are literally everywhere.” It was almost like they had a tracker on me.
I bit my lip as I contemplated telling Mac about the trackers. I needed someone else’s input, but he was in the kings’ pocket. I was fairly certain one of those trackers belonged to them.
“What?” Mac asked as we headed down the large set of stairs heading for the dining hall.
My stomach growled at the thought of all the food choices. The rich did have it better.
“I don’t know if I can trust you.”
“Kee—”
“I know… But I need you to be on my side on this.” I stared at him, mentally begging him to be in my corner, even if it was temporary.
Mac nodded.
