Hawke was moving before any of us could stop him. He slipped through the crowd and was next to Keegan in a matter of seconds. Even the students around her hadn’t noticed. Lux smirked as he headed toward Keegan. There was no point in sticking behind. I wanted to see what she did up close.
“Come to laugh?” Keegan asked.
“Why did you put your clothes back on? You’re better off coming out naked,” Rem said.
“So the entire student body can post my nudes?” Keegan shook her head. “No thanks.”
“We wouldn’t let that happen,” Lux said.
My eyes widened in surprise. I knew we were going to some great lengths to help Keegan all because we’d claimed her, but I hadn’t expected Lux to tell her.
“You ready to bow to us?” Luxious asked. “The moment you do this, all stops.”
“Ready to eat shit?” Keegan glared at Luxious, something not most would do.
She’d been there long enough to know that was a bad idea, and yet she still did it.See, this is why I found her fascinating.
“I don’t need your help,” Keegan gritted through her teeth.
“Oh, but you do, and if you keep this up, Corpse, you’re going to find yourself on your knees for me,” Luxious said.
I grabbed Keegan and pulled her away from Luxious.
“Let me go before I punch you in your fake pretty boy smile.”
Fake?I stared down at her. I felt my mask slipping and quickly recovered it. Rem laughed and pinched her nose. “You stink, Corpse.” She smirked at Keegan before bending over to whisper to her. “Watch it. You wouldn’t want us to have to really break you in front of everyone else.”
Keegan snatched her arm out of my hold. I normally didn’t touch people if I could avoid it. I’d forgotten all about holding her arm. Another enigma to add to the list that made up Keegan Quell.
The bell rang. “Get out.” Luxious voice carried over the student body, and every single one of them left. Even the ones who didn’t want us at the top listened.
“Didn’t want anyone seeing me beat the shit out of you guys?”
Hawke moaned. “We could throw punches in front of a crowd all night long if you want, Corpse.”
“I don’t know what to do with you.” Keegan shook her head. I noticed the way her cheeks were flushed and the way she’d gravitated closer to us.
“You’re welcome, Corpse,” Luxious said. He turned away from her and headed to his class.
“I didn’t say thank you!” Her green eyes fluttered over to me. “How much longer are you going to follow me?”
Laughter burst out of Rem as she grabbed Hawke’s collar. “Damn, Sam, you’re slacking.”
However, I hadn’t. There was no point in hiding that I was watching her while we were out of school.
“You know it’s really creepy to watch someone while they run. I like to be alone, but if you’re going to keep watching, at least make yourself known.” Keegan turned on her heels and left me standing there. She glanced over their shoulder, and I hadn’t realized that I’d let my smile slip off my face. “You also look better like that.”
No one was supposed to see me for who I was. Only Lux, Rem, and Hawke did. Keegan slipped past my normal defenses. She was far more than what I’d originally thought.Just who are you, Keegan Quell?
I handledit like a pro if you asked me. Fuck, I was over their bullshit. What the hell did Lux mean I owed them? The word sent unpleasant chills up and down my arms. My stomach clenched, and the need to puke was ever-present. It might also be because of my garbage-smelling clothes.
“What the hell did they soak it in?”
Every movement brought a new putrid aroma up to my nose. I just had to be stubborn, making a point that nothing those girls did to me would make me bow to anyone.
The fucking kings especially. Mac had said that they claimed me and some protection bullshit, but from what I saw today, that was bullshit. I was fair game for every person in this hell hole.
“Hey, Keegan, right?”
