“She won’t touch him, twenty that nothing happens.”
“According to the numbers—” Samson started.
“Shut the fuck up, Sam.”
I didn’t feel like hearing him ruin the outcome. I wanted to see it for myself. She took another step toward the makeshift stage, and more guards came out. They were grown men, but it didn’t matter. Here they were nothing more than grunts in the eyes of most people attending the party. It was how things worked in Aridole.
Douglas held up his hand and stopped them.
“Bet that made him hard,” Rem chuckled.
Douglas smiled and fixed his suit. “I am going to go over the rules now. No one is ever exempted from the games.”
“Sit the hell down,” Someone shouted.
Megan flipped them off and stayed exactly where she stood. “Then go on.”
Douglas looked frazzled by her, but he cleared his expression quickly. He made a crucial mistake. He had shown his weakness in front of a room full of predators. He was worthless in front of all of them. Douglas was better off staying with the jocks. “Yes, each person in the hunt isn’t allowed to be killed.” He stopped again with his dramatics.
“What else?” one of Harry’s crew shouted.
Douglas smiled and shook his head. “That is the only rule that comes to this game. Everyone chosen isn’t an heir and is expendable.”
Megan clenched her fists, and I was certain Douglass was done for. He noticed her, too, and took the barest step back.Fuck, he is a bitch. He isn’t even worth thinking about killing.
That was the only rule, and I wasn’t the only one who picked up on it. Some guys in the room licked their lips. Things would get messy and not in the fun kind of way.
“Each person in the hunt will have a band on their arm. It is color-coded to go with the schools.” The video of the people got smaller, and four colors appeared. Green for Press Prep, black for Aridole High, white for GAOS, and purple for Grace High, the four schools representing the four sections of Aridole.
Four different schools. Some enemies didn’t want their children attending the same one. And not everyone in Aridole was rich.
Douglass hit a button on his phone, and sure enough, the armbands started to glow. My girl had a black one. I wasn’t one to question my instincts and what they were saying was the new girl was mine. Well, at least for now, until she either died or I grew bored of her.
“There are individual categories, and there are teams. Max amount of members is fo—” Bolton shouted, and Douglas slammed his mouth shut.
“Five,” Douglass said.
“Looks like he’s really trying to get in their good graces,” Rem said. Her eyes, too, were glued to the new girl.
“There are eleven people for each school.” A woman walked up on the stage wearing a bunny suit. It was all cliche and over the top. I just wanted to get to the hunting part.
“I wonder if she will scream once we catch her,” I asked.
Lux grinned. “We will see.”
How in thefuck did I end up here?It went from talking to some mediocre rich douche to being locked away in a damn cage with a bunch of other people.
“What is happening here?” I asked the guy beside me.
He shrugged before pushing his fingers through his black and green hair. His grey eyes were glazed over in the I was stoned out of my fucking mind kind of way. He was way too relaxed to be locked up in a cage like some animal. “Fuck if I know. It’s probably some stupid trial thing for the tops.”
I’ve left reality and been dumped in some alternate hunger games bullshit.“That makes no sense.”
The guy cocked a brow looking the least bit upset. “Are you new here or something?”
Wasn’t it fucking obvious? I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying hard not to punch the guy and break his nose. Although the thought calmed me a bit. A little violence would get rid of the anxious feeling ping-ponging around inside of me. I couldn’t think straight when I was this damn worked up. This was why I didn’t even want to go to the fucking party. Rich people and their weird ass shit.
Another girl in the cage chuckled, and I turned on my heels, glaring daggers at her. If I could commit murder by a look alone, the bitch would be ten feet under.
