"Theo," Lily murmured a little while later, "there's something I have to tell you."
"Whatever it is, can it wait until after I have a nap?"
She chuckled, sitting up so she was hovering over him. "No, silly, it can't wait. You won't want it to, either."
Intrigued, he blinked up at her angelic face. "All right, what is it?"
Lily leaned down and kissed him lightly on the forehead. "I found out this morning that I'm pregnant."
Theo's eyes flew open, and he sat up abruptly, knocking Lily off of him and onto the mattress. "What? Are you serious?"
"Of course I'm serious," she said, laughing as she sat up. "Why would I joke about something like that?"
"But ... but how? We've been so careful."
"Welllll ... there were a few times where we weren't very careful at all," she said with a shrug. "But sometimes these things just happen."
Theo was still in shock, but he couldn't help but feel a wave of happiness wash over him as he processed the news. "We're going to have a baby," he said softly, more to himself than to Lily.
"Yes, we are," she said, grinning broadly. "And I couldn't be happier."
"Really? I thought you wanted to wait?"
"I did, but ... now that she's here, it feels like a sign." Lily pressed a hand to her bare stomach. It was still flat, but he could imagine what she would look like in a few months from now, swollen with their child. "I'm ready to be a mom, if you are ready to be a father."
Theo wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. "If you're ready, then I'm ready," he said, before kissing her gently on the lips. "Thank you for giving me this gift, Lily. I promise I'll do everything I can to make sure our child has everything they need."
"I know you will," she said confidently. "You're going to be an amazing father."
Theo loved Lily with all of his heart, and he couldn't wait to meet their baby together. Together they were an unstoppable force, a perfect family that would last forever.
