“Bait?” I asked.
“We can’t send Sierra in as a hacker as that would potentially blow her cover, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be a bad ass bitch. Strong, capable, street smart women are catnip to Raven and if she doesn’t take Tango’s bait, maybe she’ll take Sierra’s. We’re hoping Raven goes for both. The more we can learn about the Beast, the more we’ll know what we’re up against.”
“What if Raven doesn’t go for the bait?” I asked.
“Then, at least we’ll have gained deeper access into the Predators’ organization.”
“A lot of things have to happen first,” Sundance said. “Jaws hasn’t agreed to take Tango on, so that may take a few weeks to lock down. We’ll ease Sierra into the mix. It won’t be immediate.”
“I don’t fuckin’ care if it’s in a year, Sundance, Idon’t want her part of this.”
“She’s good,” Taxi said. “Not just at the computer shit, Wrath. She’s a crack shot, can disassemble then reassemble an AR and a handgun blindfolded with an accuracy and speed a lot of agents don’t have, and she’s underestimated which makes her the perfect spy.”
“What happens if it doesn’t work?” I scowled. “What about Sierra and Tango? If you blow your chance to take down Raven, what happens to them? Are they supposed to stay with the Predators?”
“If the operation goes south in any way, Sierra and Tango will be extracted immediately. We’ll have an exit team nearby that’ll be ready to go at a moment’s notice.”
“It only takes a second to put a bullet in someone’s head, Agent. If this thing goes south, Sierra and Tango will be dead before you can even call your team.”
“I’ll have her back,” Tango said. “She’ll be playing the role of my old lady, right? So, it’ll be normal for me to keep tabs on her. Don’t worry, I’ll keep her safe.”
“What about Bellamy, brother? You willin’ to put that on the line?”
“Booth,” Sierra admonished.
Bellamy had moved into the cabin for protection, and I honestly didn’t know where she and Tango stood on the relationship-front, but I knew my question was a below the belt one, as it was intended.
“That’s none of your fuckin’ business,” Tango ground out.
“This is fucked up, Sunny. It’s fucked up and you know it. I’ll be cool, you don’t have to worry about me, but if this gets them killed it’s on your head. And I’ll tell you this, if Sierra is harmed in any way, you will have my patch on this table.”
I stormed out of the room and made my way upstairs.
Sierra
Ifollowed Wrathinto his room and waited while he paced.
Then I waited for several tense minutes for him to calm down after he punched yet another hole in his wall. This was the proverbial ‘other shoe’ I’d been afraid of.
“No.”
“No, what?” I asked.
“You’re not doin’ it.”
I sighed. “I am, honey.”
He shook his head. “You’re not fuckin’ goin’ into that hell hole without me at your back.”
“It won’t be forever.”
“I don’t care if it’s for a goddamn hour. You’re not doin’ it.”
“Grab your gun,” I said.
He faced me with a frown. “What?”
“Follow me,” I ordered, and made my way to my room, then to my gun safe, where I entered the codeand pulled out my FBI-issued Glock 9.
