I smack her ass as I chuckle. “If it’s my sister calling us both, we need to set some boundaries for her.”
Saoirse has been at mine and Haley’s place every night for the past week. Once Haley finally forgave her for being in on the ploy to get her to Seattle, the two have been inseparable.
If it was my little sister, she was being a major cock-block.
Haley climbs off me, grabbing her phone. “It’s Mur—” she shakes her head, stopping herself. “I mean Paddy.”
Haley licks her lips and drags her bottom lip between her teeth as she returns his call. I swipe the phone from her, sitting up. She doesn’t fight me, just climbs off the bed and hurries to get dressed.
If Paddy was calling me first, then called her only when he couldn’t reach me, something is going on. Something bad.
I move off the bed as he picks up the phone and reach for my own clothes. “Haley! I need Cal!” Paddy’s voice is frantic in my ear.
″It’s me, Pat. What’s going on?”
″It’s Scotty. Fuck! Callum. It’s bad.” His voice cracks.
″What happened?” I ask as I pull on my jeans and reach for a shirt.
″Griffin. Griffin was walking home and he was mugged and Scotty. Oh, God.”
I shake my head, not following. “Why was Scotty with Michael Griffin, Patrick? You’re not making any bloody sense.”
″Griff?” Haley chirps, rushing over to me. I raise my hand up to stop her from asking too many questions. Right now, my focus is on calming my frantic brother.
″Paddy. Tell me what’s going on. Calmly.”
″Griffin was angry with me,” he pants through the phone. “We got into a fight and he was walking home instead of getting a ride from Scotty. He was mugged and Scotty stepped in and was shot.”
″Shot where?”
Haley’s eyes bug out of her head as she runs out of the bedroom as quickly as she can., fully dressed. I follow her as she presses the button for the elevator lift, both of our shoes in her hand. Paddy gives me an address and hangs up the phone as we step into the lift.
″What the fuck is happening?” She asks, her hands digging into my side. “Is Griff dead?”
″It wasn’t Griffin, Haley. It was Scotty. He was shot in the chest.”
″Oh, Jesus Christ. Is he alive? Where are they?”
″They’re at a warehouse we use for situations like this. Paddy’s working on stopping the bleeding as best he can. He needs your help.”
″Of course, Callum,” she nods. “Anything. I’ll do whatever I can.”
I nod, slowly, as I bite my lip. Her nails dig into my side, keeping me grounded. Scotty is one of our best guards, and Haley’s grown close to him. He has to survive this. Haley has to get through whatever storm awaits us when we reach that warehouse. If she crumbles, so will I.
Acknowledgments
Tomyhusband, withoutyou, I’d have gotten ZERO writing done. You support me, always. I love you.
To my Alpha and Beta Readers, thank you so much for taking this pile of dog crap and turning it into a beautiful work of art. No, seriously, I had the plot. I had the heart, but you’ve managed to bring this book to life. You’ve helped me give details that brought these characters to life.
Thank you, Blurbs, Baubles and Book Covers, for an amazing book cover!
