Jax and I put on our coats and headed out of the chalet. We turned left and trudged down the snowy path toward the house Cerina was sharing with Bobbi, Harlow, and some of the other popular girls.

Cerina was in the living room when we arrived, wearing a pink ski jacket and matching pants with black and white piping down the sides. When she saw us, she sneered. “What the hell are you two doing here?”

“We need to talk to you about last night,” Jax said.

“I’m not sorry, if that’s what you’re hoping to hear,” Cerina replied breezily, turning to pick up a pink beanie from the coffee table.

Jax’s hands curled up at his sides. “So you admit it?”

“Uh, yeah? Why would I deny it?” Cerina asked, turning back to face us. “Everyone was there. They all heard what I said.”

I frowned. “Wait, what are you talking about?”

“The stuff I said when we played Never Have I Ever,” she replied, rolling her eyes. “I really don’t give a fuck if you guys are offended, so you can leave now.”

“That’s not why we’re here,” Jax said. “We’re talking about the Dirt post.”

“What Dirt post?”

“It said you were spotted sneaking out of this house at one in the morning. Where did you go?”

Cerina snorted. “None of your fucking business.”

“That’s not true,” Jax said in a low voice, taking a step forward. “When you try to hurt Kinsey, it’s definitely my fucking business.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Last night, you sneaked into my chalet and stole Jax’s phone while we were in the hot tub,” I said, folding my arms. “You were jealous because you saw us leave the party together, weren’t you? So you thought you’d get revenge.”

“Um… no. You two can do whatever you want with each other. I don’t care anymore.”

“You cared enough to get someone to hammer some spikes into a ravine so you could lure me into it and impale me.”

Cerina’s nose wrinkled. “What the fuck are you even talking about?” she said. “You sound totally nuts.”

“Save it, Cerina,” Jax said stiffly. “You’re the only person who hates Kinsey enough to try to kill her.”

“You think I’m the only one who hates that stupid whore?” she said, narrowing her eyes in my direction. “Half of Crown Point probably hates her for what she did to your dad.”

“She didn’t do anything to him,” Jax said. “He hurt her, and you know that.”

“If you say so.” Cerina sniffed and waved a dismissive hand. “Anyway, I’m about to go skiing, so I really don’t have time for whatever crazy shit you two have decided to make up now.”

“We didn’t make anything up. Someone tried to hurt Kinsey last night, and we’re pretty fucking sure it was you.”

“Well, it wasn’t,” Cerina said, crossing her arms. “You’re barking up the wrong tree, and I can’t be bothered dealing with your bullshit anymore. So kindly fuck off.”

“Tell us where you were,” I said. “If you weren’t spying on us, stealing phones, and setting up traps in the dark, where were you?”

“I told you, it’s none of your business.”

“Well, we can only assume itwasyou, then,” Jax said.

Cerina rolled her eyes. “God, you guys are fucking cracked,” she muttered. “Look, if you really must know, I was down by the lake, okay?”

“Why?”

She let out a heavy sigh. “I sneaked out to have a cigarette. That’s it.”
