Hello, Dirt Lovers! I’ve been getting your tips all summer long, and now that school is almost back on, I’m ready to drop the juiciest ones.
I’m kicking things off with some dirt on our new transfer student, Kinsey Holland. After seeing the evidence, I’m wondering if she should be transferred to a mental health ward instead…
So here’s the dirt for all you drama llamas. Apparently Crazy Kinsey was thrown out of her last school for viciously assaulting and almost killing a fellow student, vampire-style. I didn’t even believe the tip at first, because that’s literally insane, but then I saw the proof (watch the video at the end of the post to see it for yourself).
So, Dirt Lovers… what are your thoughts? Does CK deserve a second chance in the hallowed halls of CPA, where our top-notch teachers and counselors can guide her to a kinder, cooler-headed future? Or is she merely proof that literally ANY school, no matter how exclusive, will let you in as long as your mommy is banging the right rich dude?
Below the defamatory post was an embedded video. I pressed the white play button and stared at the screen with wide eyes.
The video showed me running along a hall at my old high school, screaming like a banshee. I launched myself at my friend Jess and shoved her against a wall before smashing her head into it multiple times. Then I lowered my face to her neck and sank my teeth into her skin until blood spurted all over the walls and floor.
“Oh my god,” I said with a groan, handing the phone back to Erin. “That’s not what it looks like. Seriously.”
Erin’s forehead creased. “It’s not you in the video?”
“Itisme, but it’s not real.”
“So it’s a deepfake?”
“No.” I sucked in a deep breath, trying to stop myself from panicking and spiraling. “Okay, so… the other girl in the video is my best friend from back home. Jess. She really wants to be a filmmaker one day, so she’s in the film club, drama club, and AV club. She made that video.”
“Um, okay,” Erin said in a skeptical tone. “Why?”
“She wanted to make a short film last spring with some of her film club friends, so they got permission from the teachers to shoot something in the school. It was meant to be a found footage horror movie. Well, a horror-comedy, really,” I said. “Basically, it’s about a virus that turns people into zombies. But the zombies look normal compared to most zombies. You can only tell they’re infected because they’re super angry and attack everyone they see.”
“Like 28 Days Later?” Erin said. “With the rage virus?”
“Yes. Just like that,” I replied. “Anyway, Jess asked me to be in the movie. My job was to be a zombie who attacks and infects her. That’s the part the video on the app showed. So someone’s gone to the original video on YouTube and spliced out that little clip to make me look bad.”
“Oh.” Erin looked dumbfounded.
“Seriously, I can prove it,” I said. “The whole thing is on YouTube. Just look up Jess Sanchez and find her profile. The movie is called Zombie Prison Break.”
Erin let out a little snort of laughter. “Zombie Prison Break?”
“Yes.” My cheeks flushed hot, and I took a step closer. “Seriously, look it up.Please.I don’t want you thinking I’m the sort of person who goes around trying to kill people. The whole thing is fake. The blood was just corn syrup, and I wasn’t really hurting Jess at all. They just added some sounds in editing to make it seem like I was really smashing her head against that wall.”
Erin smiled and lifted a hand. “I don’t need to look it up. I believed you the second you said ‘Zombie Prison Break’. There’s no way anyone could make up something that crazy on the fly.”
“Oh.” My shoulders sagged with relief. “Thanks.”
“Actually, you know what? I’ll write a comment on the Dirt post with the link to the original YouTube thing,” she said, focusing on her screen again. “The last thing you need is some stupid lie spreading around during your first week here.”
“You can post replies on the app?”
“Yup. People can respond to any of the posts once they’re live. The comments are all anonymous, so you never know who’s posting them, but you can usually guess,” Erin replied as she tapped away at her phone keyboard. “You should download the app yourself. I hate it, but I have to admit it helps me keep on top of whatever drama is going on each week.”
I pulled out my own phone and searched for the Dirt app in the Apple store. “Who runs it?” I asked, glancing up at Erin.
She shrugged. “No idea. All we know is their username. RXorcist.”
“And the school just allows it?”
“The administration has no idea about the app,” she said. “But I’m guessing that’s part of the reason the creator chose to stay anonymous. For one, everyone at school would hate their guts if they knew who it was, and they’d also face expulsion if the admin ever found out about it.”
“Could it be Jax?” I asked. “He really doesn’t like me, and I can’t think of anyone else in town who might have it out for me. I mean, I literallyjustmoved here, so I can’t have made any other enemies, right?”
