“You been drinking a lot?”

She starts laughing. “No. But I’m no good at it.”

I sit down next to her and laugh.

“Jade and Ryan?”

“Sleeping,” I answer.

“I’m … I gotta go home.”

“I don’t think you’re in any shape to drive.”

She closes one eye and looks at me.

“You winking at me, Tessa?”

“No, I’m trying … There are two of you.”

I laugh, and she does, too.

“Water, ibuprofen, bed, sleep, hangover, and no more drinking.”

“I can get you the water, ibuprofen, and tuck you in. I can’t do a damn thing about the hangover.” I pull her up and steady her.

“I can do this.”

“You pretend you can, tough girl, and I will pretend I’m not helping you.”

I get her in the kitchen where she sways as she holds on to the counter. We each have a glass of water and two ibuprofen.

“You sure this is ibuprofen?” she asks.

“Yeah.”

“Wait. Are you taking me to bed?” She stumbles when she turns around and looks up at me. She tries to put her hand on her hip and misses because she’s that fucked up.

I cover my mouth, trying to hide the grin threatening, and nod my head.

She closes one eye again and looks sternly at me. “I’m not going to have sex with you.”

To that, I laugh really fucking loud.

She dives at me and covers my mouth. “You’ll wake up Jade.”

I pull her hand from my mouth and pick her up. “Don’t move, dammit, or we’ll both fall down the stairs,” I say as I carry her to my old bedroom.

I set her on the bed. “Lucas, I … can’t.”

“I said I was going to tuck you in bed, not fuck—”

“You have pretty lips.” She’s staring at them then traces them with her finger.

“Yeah?”

“Uh-huh.” She grabs the side of my head and pulls me down inches from her lips. “If I wanted to fuck, you would, right?”

“We’re both fucked up,” I begin.
