Frowning, Jules looked at Danny. “What’s The Aurora Project?”

“A few years ago, Ortiz and I started a foundation for kids in need. Not just financial need, but also if they had bad family situations or if their parents couldn’t give them the attention they needed.” He shrugged. “It’s no big deal.”

“You handle the funding,” Connor said.

“I’m a celebrity, and a lot of people follow my lead.”

“And your investments?”

Next to her, Danny froze. “Excuse me?”

Connor smiled wolfishly. “Like I said, I’m thorough.”

Jules looked back and forth between the two of them. “What’s going on here?”

“Your man here is a genius when it comes to stocks,” Connor said. “I’ve never seen anyone with a win rate like he has.”

“It’s just a hobby I’ve had for a long time,” Danny said to her.

Connor snorted. “When you move the sort of volume that you move, it’s more than a hobby. It’s a gift. When did you start trading?”

“You didn’t find that out?” Danny asked with a hint of sarcasm.

“I did, but I thought I’d make conversation.”

Louisa breezed in with a tray that held the uncorked wine bottle and four glasses. She shot her husband another look. “Everything good in here?”

“It’s perfect now.” Connor waited until she’d given them each a glass to pull her into his lap to sit. “I was just asking Danny about his experience in the stock market.”

Louisa looked at Danny. “I thought you play soccer.”

Danny sighed. Then he turned to Jules. “I started trading when I was in high school. I like it. I’m good at it.”

“Good enough that you run a fund for your foundation as well as your partner,” Connor added.

Danny gave him a flat look. “Yes.”

Connor smiled. “Maybe you’d look over my portfolio.”

That made Louisa snort. But Danny just tipped his head and said, “I’d be happy to. Do you handle investments for Sunflower Alley too?”

Louisa froze, her wide eyes zeroing in on Jules in shock. Connor’s gaze sharpened, but that was the only indication he gave to his surprise.

Connor was the one to speak, his hand soothing on Louisa’s back as if reassuring her. “You know about Sunflower Alley?”

Danny nodded. “I imagine you need to make sure there’s a lot of capital available for normal days as well as rainy ones. The fund I’ve set up for The Aurora Project practically runs itself. Maybe there’s an idea there that could help the homeless shelter out.” He glanced at her. “It’d be my way of thanking you for caring about Jules.”

Louisa blinked at her. “You told him?”

“Yes,” she said, meeting her friend’s gaze, knowing what was going through her mind. Jules had never told anyone. She’d never trusted anyone enough.

“Well,” Louisa summed up, taking a big gulp of wine.

“So.” Jules looked back and forth between Danny and Connor. “Now that everything’s out in the open, are we all good?”

Connor raised a finger. “I have one more thing.”

“Oh God,” she muttered.
