As soon as I left the room, I missed her. God, the woman had me wrapped around her little finger already. That hadn’t happened in... a long bloody time.
I was infatuated.
Trick hammered on the door again, and I yanked it open just in time for him to raise his fist again.
“Good God, man, haud yer wheesht! It’s early yet. I don’t want my neighbors to hate me any more than they already do.”
“You don’t have neighbors. You made sure of that. Don’t give me any of that Scottish bullshit your granny uses.”
Trick was dressed for our run, with a gym bag slung over one shoulder, headphones around his neck.
“You’re not ready. Fuck, man, did you forget?”
“Aye. I have a wee bit of a distraction in my bed at the moment.”
He smirked.“A distraction? The hot kind?”
“The hottest.”
“And I’m cockblocking.”
“That’s one way of putting it, aye.”
“Then don’t let me stop you. Looks like that dating app is working out great for you.”
I wasn’t sure what to tell him. I hadn’t met her on the app. I hadn’t even opened the fucking thing since I set up my account.
“Yeah. I’ve got them lined up round the block,” I lied.
“Legend. Well, have fun getting your cardio in. Same time tomorrow? It’s leg day.”
I jerked my chin at him in agreement, then shut the door in his face. The last thing I wanted was to spend another minute away from the sweet pixie waiting in my bed. But she was dressed and standing in the doorway to my room when I turned around.
“Lined up round the block, huh?” Her eyes were narrowed, hands balled into tight fists.
“Don’t be like that, hen. I was only having a laugh with him.”
“At my expense?”
“Nae, that’s not what this was.”
She walked toward me, her syrupy sweet smile telling me I was in big trouble. “You know what? You’re right. It’s not what this was. You and I had a good time, and that’s all. Thanks for the orgasm, Taylor. I’ll see you around.”
I reached for her, needing to pull her into my arms so I could kiss the sass right out of her, but she jerked away.
“No. I’m going home. Like I should have done last night.”
“Come on, Becca. Give me a chance to prove it to you.”
“The only thing you’ve proven was that you’re the player I suspected you were from the start.” Tugging open the door, she shook her head. “I’m not interested in that. I’m not someone you can toy with. Goodbye, Taylor.”
She left me standing there, the echoes of her voice ringing in my mind, the sweetness of her perfume lingering in the air.
I pressed my palm to the doorframe and let her leave, determined to win her over and show her we’d be good together. One way or another.
“Fuck it,” I muttered before running after her.
I caught the little blonde firecracker as she waited for the elevator. Her huff of annoyance would have made me laugh if I wasn’t on the verge of losing any hope of something with her.
