My gaze lands on Sienna as she flicks through the papers, her brow furrowed and her fingers swift between the pages. Until she pauses and her eyes widen a fraction.
My heart sinks.
Oh no.
I can’t take my eyes off her even as Feliks’ voice drones into the background. Dante’s voice joins in but it’s all second to the slightly distressed look on Sienna’s face. As calm as her composure is, I know that look.
It’s someone we know, isn’t it?Is it Cara?
Don’t be stupid!
I scold such an intrusive thought the moment it flashes up, cursing myself as Feliks and his man leave through the curtain, and an uncomfortable silence falls.
“Sienna,” I say as Dante sits next to her, glancing over her shoulder.
Wordlessly, she picks up a photograph and holds it out to me. It takes all my willpower to avoid trembling as I take the picture and flip it over, revealing who the Russians were working with.
Blair?!
What the fuck!
Her piercing eyes and crimson hair stare up at me from the photo and sickening coldness skitters across my skin. Blair? Really?
“How?” I ask and my throat catches on the word.
Sienna busies herself with some of the papers, eyes darting as she scans the information.
“Italy,” she says finally. “They started planning to take us down just after we defeated the Snake but we had tightened things so much by then, they couldn’t find an in. Until you.” Her eyes flick to me briefly. “When I made you my underboss, they scoured for connections and found out about Blair. She was with you for six years and then left the country, unprotected and unescorted.”
Dante clears his throat and shifts in his seat.
“Who is it?” Owen asks from his corner but he’s ignored.
“She’s a family connection with no protection. Looks like they hoped they could use her to pull at your heartstrings, either force you to cooperate or use her to lure you out,” Sienna continues.
Each word stabs a little sharper into my heart.
“You made it clear that wouldn’t work so they tried to slot her back into your life, into your good graces in order to get an assassin close enough to kill me or Dante but…”
Oh my fucking God.
“But?”
“Cara got in the way,” Sienna concludes with a sigh. “Your marriage to her ended all chances of Blair getting back in your life so it became ‘kill by any means.’”
“Blair, surely she doesn’t have it in her? She’s just a… a party girl. And you’ve not seen her in months, have you?” Dante asks and his voice fuzzes slightly in my ears.
Blair.
The mother of my child. Never in a million years would I fathom Blair working for the Russians, but… maybe they know about our child? She would do anything if her son was threatened.
Iwould do anything.
Unless they don’t know it’s mine yet. Maybe that’s why she’s had such a hard time talking to me about it.
“Killian?” Sienna prompts and I lift my gaze from where it had been locked on the papers in her hands.
“Actually…” I begin and I see Dante’s shoulders drop out of the corner of my eye. “I’ve seen her around. In the clubs and things. I threatened her, and sent her away time and time again, but then…”
