Kane grunted. “That just might kill you.”
The girl froze and gasped. “Daddy, that’s so mean.”
Kane pulled her in for a hug. “I’m sorry.”
Cole bit his lip to keep from laughing at the grin on Kane’s face that she couldn’t see because her face was pressed into his chest.
“I think it would be fine for you to have a picnic. I’m assuming it’s in Caleb’s office since he doesn’t like Bella to be out of his sight for long?”
The girl started bouncing and clapping again, almost hitting Kane’s chin with the top of her head. Kane stopped her movements with his hands on her shoulders. “But I want you in here for the rest of the day.”
“Daddy,” she whined, dragging out the word.
“I can tell you’re tired, baby, and you get feistier than normal when you’re grumpy.”
“I wouldn’t be tired if you hadn’t kept me up most of the night fu—making love to me.”
Kane snorted. “Good catch. Before you lie down, I’d like you to meet a friend of mine.”
Sienna turned to him and blushed. “I’m sorry, Da—Kane. I was so excited I didn’t see him.”
Kane rubbed her back. “It’s okay if you call me Daddy. He knows all about us. This is Cole.”
“Why are you in that chair?” Sienna asked bluntly, making Kane roll his eyes.
Cole laughed. “I’m in the chair because I got hurtoverseas.”
He couldn’t believe it when tears filled her eyes.
“Oh, how bad were you hurt? Can I see?”
Kane growled. “He’s not going to pull down his pants for you, baby.”
Sienna glanced up at Kane. “He probably has panties on, so I won’t see anything.”
“They’re not panties. I’ve told you this. Women are the only ones who wear panties. On guys, they’re called underwear.”
Cole sputtered out a laugh. “Kane, you never know. I could be wearing panties.”
Kane scowled at him, and Sienna’s jaw dropped.
“Really? Now I have to see,” Sienna said.
“He’s not showing you anything,” Kane bellowed. “Stop asking.”
Sienna stared at him and then looked at Kane. “Is it because he’s handsome?”
Kane looked toward the ceiling. “Sienna, you’re not supposed to look at other men and say they’re handsome.”
Sienna laid her head on his chest and looked up at Kane with innocent eyes. “But Daddy. No one will ever be as handsome as you.”
Kane rolled his eyes. “I want you to get your blankie and take a nap on the sofa.”
Sienna seemed discouraged. “Fine.”
Cole watched her go to a chest on the other side of Kane’s desk, open it, and pull out what looked like a really soft, rainbow-colored blanket. She hugged it to her chest as she walked over to Kane and raised her head. “Kiss, Daddy.”
Kane dropped his head and kissed her. It didn’t stop with a peck on the lips. Kane had her in his arms, holding her tightly against his chest and devouring her, and it didn’t look like she minded at all and was trying to crawl up his body.
