Jade saw Hammond bite the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing.

“Jade, get in the car,” Cole said.

“Yes, sir.”

Jade slid in and came to an abrupt stop when she saw Blake. “Oh, um, hi.”

He nodded. “Hi.”

“Scoot over, Jade,” Cole said from behind her.

She settled in and tried to keep some space between her and Blake because the man scared her. Cole got comfortable and took her hand.

“Are you hurt at all, baby?”

She turned to look at him. “No.”

Her gaze settled on a few guys that were helping the prick out of the bar. The guy held a towel to his nose.

She grinned and then looked up at Cole to see him scowling down at her, and her smile dropped immediately.

“You shouldn’t be happy when you hurt people, Jade,” Cole said.

“Even bad people?”

“You have to promise me that you won’t fight again.”

She nodded. “I’ll try my very best.”

Cole rolled his eyes and could have sworn she heard Blakechuckle. She turned and glared at him and saw he still looked mean.

“You didn’t happen to see any of that, did you?”

He nodded. “I saw it all.”

“I’m really a nice person.” She looked at Cole. “Aren’t I?”

“Most of the time,” Cole said.

Her mouth dropped open. “That was mean.”

“How many people have you attacked?” Cole asked. “Since I’ve known you, there was one at the pool, two at the bar, and you were snarky with the maître d' at the restaurant.”

She huffed and crossed her arms. “They all deserved it.”

“We’ll talk more about this at home.”

She sighed. “Yes, sir.”

They pulled up at the building, and Blake got out right away while Hammond got the chair and opened Cole’s door. He hopped into his chair and then held his hand out to her.

When she stood on the sidewalk, he pulled her onto his lap.

“Thank you, Hammond,” Cole said.

“Have a good night,” the driver said.

She looked over Cole’s shoulder and waved. “Bye, Hammond.”
