“It’s a long story.”

Once again, I broke into my practiced speech about how Alexis really wanted to join and how I had the connections, so used them to help her out. There was no mention of anything else, and he didn’t bring up the fact that Susie was also a pledge, but I could see the wheels turning.

To take him off the scent, I rested my head on his shoulder and sighed. “What is it? Oh, damn, I forgot you were wearing heels; sorry about that, babe. Give ‘em here.” I looked at him as if he were speaking an alien language.

“What?”

“Your shoes.”

“You want me to walk barefoot?” I don’t care where she is; if I did that here, Blaire Davenport would show up tomorrow with a moving truck to take me back home.

He didn’t say anything as he leaned down and lifted my feet to remove my shoes which sent relief ricocheting through my body; the damn things are a nuisance. “Hop on.” He had his back turned as he knelt on the sidewalk.

“What?” My voice came out in a squeak as I looked around to see if anyone was watching us.

“Let’s go, baby; it’s getting late.” I climbed on his back, something I hadn’t done with dad since I was about five or six.

“Give me the shoes.” He held them in his hands as he made sure my legs were wrapped securely around him.

“No, you just concentrate on holding onto me.”

It was the perfect ending to a perfect day, and it only got better when we got back to the dorm, and instead of letting me down off his back, he pulled me around in front of him, pressing his body into mine against the wall outside the door. My heart trembled when he kissed me almost hungrily, and when he growled as my lips opened beneath his, it felt like I wet myself.

Something warm and wet escaped my body, and he hissed, “fuck” I’ve never heard Cody swear and didn’t know why he did it now; neither did I care. I was too busy being absorbed by his lips and tongue and all the wonderful new feelings they’d awakened in my body. I didn’t know a kiss could be so…. So overwhelming.

As close as we were, it wasn’t close enough, and by the time we came up for air, I realized I’d all but climbed him. His breathing was harsh and erratic in my ear as he rested his head next to mine while his arms were like steel bands around me, holding me in place. It was then I felt it, that hardness that was now pressed between my thighs right where that wetness persisted, and I almost fainted.

“Okay-okay, easy.” Huh? What? I had no idea what he was talking about until he eased our lips apart, and I followed, trying to recapture his. I felt like my body was on fire like I wanted to climb out of my skin and into his. That hard length called to me, and I rubbed myself against it until that too was taken away by him.

“Cody!” I pouted and sulked until he grinned and kissed my nose ever so sweetly before letting me down.

“Okay live wire, that’s enough for you for tonight.” If mom and dad could see me now. I grumbled my way through the door he held open for me and jumped him again when he tried saying goodbye. If that Susie idiot threatens this, I’ll scalp her and leave her staked out in the woods.

LISA

If I’d had anything to eat or drink other than the bottled water Cody had taste-tested himself at the party, I’d believe someone had slipped me something. But I hadn’t even had more than a few sips of that water, seeing as how my throat was clogged with nerves the whole night, which means this behavior, this wanton display, was all me.

Embarrassment reared its ugly head, and I was this close to reverting back to my old ways. My heart thundered in my chest as the heat of shame crept onto my cheeks, but the new Diva that had taken up residence in my soul refused to move an inch; nope, instead, she boldly wrapped her arms around his neck and held him in place against her.

“Babe, we can’t; you’re not ready.”

“Ready for what?” I must’ve looked like a babe in the woods because he kissed my forehead and said, “Exactly,” before extricating himself from my hold and putting me away from him. Yes, it took me a minute to figure out what he was saying, and then the cheeks really became inflamed, and the Diva took a bow and withdrew, leaving one scared little rabbit in her place.

“You… I…” If my eyes got any wider, they’d see into the room next door. Well, heck, here is something else I’d overlooked in all my planning. Green as a stump, that’s me. I didn’t take into account what effect my actions would have on him, on us. I’d been so focused on bringing Susie down a peg that I’d gone into automatic mode without covering all the bases.
