"I don't think you will have a problem with the council," Damon said, making us both turn to him.
"Why?"
"Because if this little one dares challenge you, then who doesn't she dare challenge?" Damon said, looking at Lara, who seemed quite happy with what he said.
I smiled too, looking down at Lara. He had a point.
"Sorry about the hand thing," Lara said and then did a small wave instead.
"I understand. I wouldn't like it either," Damon said.
Lara seemed quite relaxed in his company, and I was happy to see that, or maybe it was just because I had my arms wrapped around her and pressed close to me. I had barely even noticed I had wrapped my arms around her. I had done it instinctually because I never liked her to be too far away from me, or for there to be any distance between us. Even if it seemed crazy, I welcomed these feelings.
"So, what were you guys talking about?" Lara asked, glancing up at me.
"We are throwing a party."
"A ... what now?" she asked, making us all chuckle.
"It will be a great way to introduce you," I explained.
"Isn't that what that ... eh, ceremony is for?"
"That is to make you officially my queen. This way, people get to meet you ... in more relaxed settings," I said.
"Relaxed?" she asked, arching an eyebrow, as she looked at me.
Yeah, I had a hard time saying it as well. There was nothing relaxed about these parties, and we all knew it, but it was necessary so they could get to know her.
"Fine, but what the hell am I going to wear?!" she asked.
Chapter 44
-Lara-
A party ...
I didn't want to go to any party, but if I wanted to win over the council and the aristocrats who had the most power here in our society, then it was necessary, and I just had to suck it up. I liked this Damon though. I even learned he was on the council as well, but clearly, the only one who didn't mind that I wasn't some fancy vampire or werewolf, coming from some powerful line, and therefore, I would be more suited for Dominic. No, he actually just liked me, because I clearly made Dominic happy.
It made me happy too, to see the two of them having such a great time, just talking and sharing memories. Apparently, Damon and Dominic had met when Damon's sister had been hurt, and Damon wanted to be a part of avenging her. It had happened over two hundred years ago though. Damon had some stories about Dominic though. How he had even charmed a lady, whom he had not known had been married to someone and how the husband had interrupted them, trying to even get Dominic killed, chasing him through the castle they lived in, half-naked.
I couldn't stop laughing, just imagining the sight of it, while Dominic just shook his head. While I didn't like so much to hear about the people he had slept with before, there was no denying he had a past before me, and there was nothing I could do to change that. Besides, I knew it didn't matter. They were his past, and it was clear I was his future.
"Of all the stories," Dominic said. "You choose that one."
"Yes, because I got to save your ass. I was with their daughter, so I heard them yelling," Damon said.
I just continued to laugh, as we sat there, Dominic had his arm securely wrapped around my waist though and kept me close the whole time.
"Oh, this is too good!" I laughed. "I know whom to go to now when I need some dirt on you."
"Dirt on me? Are you planning to blackmail me in the future?" he asked.
I shrugged and crossed my arms.
"You never know."
Domini just shook his head.
