It was then a group of young human women, who had clearly come to eat some late dinner, came inside. They all quickly noticed Gabriel as they walked by, finding a corner booth, and started to giggle and talk about him. Gabriel was facing in their direction, and I noticed him smiling at them sometimes.
"If you want to go talk to them-"
"No, no, no, I am not leaving your side," he said.
"It's fine. I will just sit right here."
"Not happening," he told me.
I just shrugged, acting like it didn't matter, even if it would have given me the perfect excuse to run. Instead, I focused on the burger in front of me. It was strange that good food was just constantly available to me now. Whatever I wanted. It really did have its perks being the hybrid king's mate.
"Good?" he asked, as he heard themmhmmsound leave me.
"So good!"
He smiled pleased. Gabriel really was happy I was happy. It was strange to have a friend like this. I had never had many friends really. I didn't want them to feel sorry for me about my stepdad or to even know about him, and I had always been afraid that they would find out I wasn't like them. I had kept myself isolated, knowing it was the best way to keep my head down.
"I will let Dominic know we went out though," Gabriel said and pulled his phone out.
"Scared?" I teased him.
"Well, I know he can kick my ass ... so yes," he said.
"Is he the strongest of you three?" I asked him and smiled.
"Why? Would you like to hear he was?" Gabriel just asked me.
I just shrugged, though there was a strange feeling of pride, I felt just from the thought of it. It had to be my wolf's instincts, probably liking a strong mate. I wanted to roll my eyes though.
"We all got our skills. Dominic has always been terrific when it comes to fighting," Gabriel said. "But the strongest ... I don't know. I have beaten his ass sometimes too."
"But he has beaten yours more?" I asked him.
He just chuckled.
"For now, he is in the lead, yes," he told me.
I just continued to smile.
"But your talent is being flirty," I said.
He just smiled and leaned back in his seat.
"I do know how to charm people. Why you like me so much."
"In your dreams," I told him. "What is Ace's talent?"
Gabriel thought it over, eating one of the fries on my plate. I slapped his hand, but he didn't drop the fry.
"Get your own!" I told him.
"Wow! Someone doesn't like to share."
"I'm an only child. Of course not," I just said.
He just shook his head at me, as he smiled.
"Now, Ace," I said.
