"Well, I choose you."
"Choose me and you lose the crown."
"We will see about that," I said and pushed away.
She looked a bit unsure if she could really just slide off the counter and stand on her own feet, so she did it slowly until she was standing again.
"You shouldn't gamble with something like this," she told me.
"I like to gamble."
Chapter 30
-Lara-
I was really surprised when he came into the kitchen, just kissing me. It was the second time he had done it, but this time it felt different. Much more desperate, and it was like he spoke to me through that kiss, told me how much he had missed me, and needed me. I told myself I was an idiot for even thinking he would feel such things about me, but then he surprised me again by lifting me onto the counter. He acted strangely, and I could only think that some things had happened at this meeting he had attended.
Bad things.
I didn't ask though because I could already imagine what it was about. They had heard about me, and they didn't like me. The council wanted me gone. I was not surprised, and I couldn't believe the king was either. Still, he said he chose me. Why couldn't he just listen to them?! This would not end well if he continued to give them the finger. They had power. Real power and he had to listen to them, or I feared ... I feared, they might just kill him.
The thought of him dying ... fuck, that hurt. I couldn't even explain it. I hardly knew him but thinking about him dying did something to me. I was slowly growing more attached, wasn't I? As a half-blood, the bond worked slower. I didn't grow attached at the first sight, but slowly and with time, I would grow as attached as any wolf, and I wouldn't be able to get away from him.
Time was running out.
How the hell did I get away though before I found myself unable to? I didn't have an answer yet. I wasn't even sure where to go after I got out of this house. I had no idea about the city. I had never even been here before. The king had not made it easy for me, but I was determined to free myself. I had been determined to free myself for a long time.
"Come here."
I had made myself a sandwich before the king had pulled me to the living room, where the other two were. He sat down on the big couch a little further away from Gabriel, before pulling me down on his lap.
"Can't I just sit beside you?" I asked.
He shook his head and then leaned closer to my neck, inhaling deeply. His body literally shook. I was so surprised that such a powerful hybrid was shaking just from scenting me. It kind of made me feel a little powerful, which was quite a new feeling.
"No," he spoke into my neck, his hot breath fanning my skin.
It sent shivers down my spine, and I coughed a little trying to get a grip, but it was very hard when he had his arms around me, making me unable to go anywhere and his lips were inches from the sensitive skin on my neck. It felt like a small voice inside of me was begging him to move lower and sink his teeth into my skin to finally make me his.
No!
I couldn't think such thoughts.
I just couldn't ...
"So, how did the meeting go?" Gabriel asked and looked between Ace and the king.
Ace was sitting on a chair close to Gabriel, quiet as always.
"As expected," the king just said.
"That bad?" Gabriel asked.
The king nodded, and I felt my heart tighten in pain. Here I was causing trouble for them, and I hated it. I hated that wherever I went I caused trouble for someone and made their lives harder.
"So, what should we expect?" Gabriel asked.
"They won't go easy on me," the king said.
