"Afraid I will do something?" he teased me.

I sighed and lowered the book before finally looking at him.

"No," I said. "Because then you would lose more than just an arm."

He smiled, but instead of continuing our little banter I just looked at the book again, hoping he would take the hint and leave me alone. He didn't.

He grabbed the book and threw it away. It slid over the little coffee table and landed on the ground with a small thud.

"Hey!" I said annoyed and looked at him.

It was then I saw his eyes had changed. They were still the same dark ones that all hybrids had, but there was more in them. A seriousness I hadn't seen in him before.

"Stop ignoring me," he said.

"I wasn't," I lied and crossed my arms.

He smiled a little and sighed.

"Yes, you were, because you don't want to admit that Arianna's words got to you," he said and pointed at me.

I slapped his hand away, but he just chuckled.

"I'm fine," I lied.

"Liar," he just said.

"Listen, she means nothing to me. Nothing here means anything to me, so why should her words mean something?" I asked.

"Wow," he just said.

"What?"

"Sounds fucking dull."

I looked at him confused, and the teasing glint in his eyes was back.

"Not caring about anything. That sounds like a shit way to live," he said.

I sighed annoyed and leaned my head back, only to meet his arm behind me and quickly lift it again.

"Well, we can't all be born powerful hybrids, that don't have to worry about anything and can just live a happy little life, fucking, eating, and sleeping the days away. What joy!" I said sarcastically.

"Well, you just figured me out in seconds," he said.

I smiled proudly, only to realize he was teasing me. He didn't mean it at all.

"None of us here has had very fun lives, but you don't see us crying about it," he told me a bit harsher than how he usually spoke to me.

"Come on! Being born a hybrid is ten times better than being born a half-blood. At least you aren't seen as the enemy all the time just because of your blood!" I said.

"Really?" he asked.

I nodded, confident in my opinion of him.

"Look around," he said and made a circular motion in the air with his finger.I did as he told me and looked around.

"Am I looking for something?" I asked.
