We both looked over at him, and he smiled at us before Ace won the game against him again, and he let out a frustrated sigh.
"Ready to give up?" I asked.
"Not even close, sweetheart."
"Gabriel!"
"What?!" he asked, acting all innocent, as he began yet another game, we all knew he would lose.
"You really got a death wish," the king mumbled.
I couldn't help but smile a little, and it seemed like the king noticed, so I quickly forced it to go away not wanting him to think I was already starting to get used to this when there was no way I was going to stay. The only person, who had ever looked out for me, besides my mother, was me.
"You know I am starting to get a little tired," I said.
It was not a lie. I was tired. It had been a long journey, and a long two days, so I knew he would not question it, yet instead of letting me go back to the room myself, as I had hoped, he followed me there.
"I thought you would want to spend some time with the other two," I said.
The king just smiled a little, as if he already knew what I was planning. I didn't like how it felt like he saw right through me. I was unsure if he really knew what I was planning, or if he just didn't trust me and just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to do anything.
"The others can entertain themselves. Besides, I want to get some sleep as well."
Fuck ...
I had hoped, he wouldn't stay in the room. Now I had to wait until he fell asleep.Keep calm,I told myself, not wanting to expose myself because of how fast my heart was beating. I bet he was listening and watching every little change in me. He knew I wasn't really planning to continue to be this nice. He knew I was running; he just didn't want me to run from him.
I opened the door and we both got inside the room, but I didn't say anything, as I went over to the bag I had brought and got some clothes to sleep in, and a toothbrush before I went to the bathroom. I changed quickly and brushed my teeth, but when I no longer had anything to do, I froze. I was starting to get nervous, and not just because I was going to sneak around the castle. The other two were still up, and with how stubborn Gabriel was, I feared they were going to play until morning. I really had to be quiet, as I learned my way around the place.
I took a deep breath and went back into the bedroom. The king had already changed and was laying in his bed. I could see he was waiting for me to make my choice about whether or not I wanted to stay on the couch or not. He even pulled the covers away a little on the other side, but I was not about to go sleep in the same bed with him. Who knew what would happen? He had already touched me like no one else had, and I just knew being in the same bed as him was a bad idea. So, I walked over to the couch and did a big number of getting myself comfortable with a blanket. It just made him laugh though, and I had to say the sound went straight to my heart. It was a really nice sound.
Dammit ...
Stay focused!
I closed my eyes and acted like I really did try and go to sleep, even if I knew I would not be sleeping at all. I hoped I wouldn't have too dark lines under my eyes tomorrow, and risk being asked why I was looking like I hadn't slept at all.
"You can relax," he said.
"What?"
"You don't have to be afraid to fall asleep. I am staying over here, little wolf."
So, he thought that was why I was not really trying to fall asleep. Well, it was maybe a small part of why I didn't want to go to sleep, but it was better he thought that was the only reason.
"I'm not afraid," I just said, knowing he wouldn't believe me at all.
He chuckled a little but did as he said and stayed where he was. I continued to act like I was trying to fall asleep, while I just waited for him to be the one who went out like a light. It didn't take long though. He had to be tired as well, and as soon as I saw my chance, I pulled away the blanket and tiptoed towards the door.
A floorboard creaked.
Fuck ...
But as I looked at the king laying on his bed, I saw he wasn't moving. He actually looked a lot less scary sleeping, but maybe that was because he wasn't watching me with those intense dark eyes of his. I shook my head, now was not the time to watch him sleep.
I continued towards the door, and opened it, keeping an eye on the king, but when he still didn't wake up, I slipped into the hallway, only to realize, I wasn't sure where to start.
