Just a little more,I thought, taking another step to the side, but then as I wanted to take one more, a dark voice suddenly spoke:
"Don't."
That was all he said. He wasn't even looking at me. He continued to watch Gabriel while resting a little against a table behind him. I froze in my tracks, and my head tried to understand if it was really me that he had spoken to, or if there was someone else. I looked around, but even if there were a lot of people around us, it was clear he had spoken to me.
"I wasn't ..."
"Yes, you were," he said darkly. "So don't."
"Just let me go. He won't know you let me."
"Yes, he will."
"I just want to leave. Please," I said and placed my glass down on the table behind us.
He looked at me for, maybe a second, and then away, but that second he had taken his eyes off Gabriel, he had somehow disappeared with every woman from that group. Were they all going to be together? I couldn't help but wonder.
"Great," Ace sneered and pressed his eyes hard together before rubbing his forehead.
Then he reached for his phone and texted someone before turning to me. His hard eyes made me unable to breathe for as long as he looked at me.
"Don't. Move."
I just nodded, not able to do anything else, and then Ace walked away, probably going to look for Gabriel and make sure he didn't make any sort of trouble, which I bet he did often, but as soon as Ace disappeared, my inner voice yelled at me asking me what the hell I was doing?! I should run!
Yes ... run!
I turned away from the crowd of people, looking for the best way out, and chose the path that led towards the garden behind the party and would eventually turn into a forest.
Chapter 10
-Lara-
I should probably have made my escape through the party, which was my original plan, but I feared I would run into one of the hybrids, and the woods just seemed like a better option, or at least it had in my head. It was harder to navigate than I thought, and I had none of my things on me like my phone. All I had was this stupid dress that made it hard to run, and shoes that were biting the back of my heels. Eventually, I had to stop and take them off, while leaning against a tree, and then I threw the awful heels away, not caring if they were expensive or one of a kind. I hated them, and I wanted them gone.
At least now it was easier to move,I thought as I ran through the dark woods, holding up my dress, so I didn't trip in it. My feet got very cold, very fast, and dirty too, and a few stones dug into my skin, but I still managed to soldier on, and when a road suddenly showed up right ahead, I felt like I was finally getting a little lucky. No, I didn't have all the jewelry I was going to pawn, but at least I was free. I just had to get away from the king, before he found out I was gone.
I ran out of the forest and onto a dark and lonely road, looking around hoping to see someone who would come my way. When it was clear no one would show up at the moment, I started to run down the road, hoping I would come by a house or kind people, who would help me out. I hadn't been running for long when I finally saw the headlights of a car lighting up the road, and I stopped and turned around, waving my arm in the air and feeling so damn relieved, when I saw it.
The car slowed down, and a huge smile spread on my lips, as I started to walk towards it, but then out of the driver's seat came the one person, I had been trying to avoid and I stopped in my tracks. My smile quickly disappeared, and he didn't look very pleased either.
Ah, fuck me ...
-Dominic-
I should have known those two idiots wouldn't have been able to keep an eye on Lara. Gabriel was of no help as always, and Ace had always been the one to make sure he didn't get into trouble, so when I found the two of them and no Lara, I was close to strangling both of them. Ace had given her a direct order to stay put, and it would probably have worked if Lara truly understood who he was and what he could do, but she had defied even me tonight, and it was no surprise, she wasn't where he had told her to stay.
It didn't take me long to get to one of the cars we had used to drive here and seek out my little mate, who I had to admit had gotten quite far, but running was damn useless. She would not escape me, and the way her smile had disappeared when she saw me, it was clear she was disappointed. I couldn't really say I was in the best of moods right now.
"Going somewhere, little one?" I asked her, as I leaned against the car.
She took a deep breath as if she really couldn't handle my teasing right now, but I had no plans of staying here to joke around. I was pissed.
"Away. From you!" she told me and turned around to walk away.
She really was pushing her luck, wasn't she? For a half-blood she was very brave, I had to admit, but it was a stupid idea to push me right now.
"Lara," I said her name hard, and she froze on the spot, but still with her back to me. "Come here. Now!"
