I did it one more time before I got to a fourth door, but just before I kicked it open, I heard a scream coming from another one further down. It made me freeze for a moment, before I pulled myself together, and ran to it, noticing it was slightly open. I pushed it the rest of the way open, and a horrible vision appeared in front of me.
Lara was face down on the ground, her clothes ripped, and one male vampire above her, while another one watched. Lara was almost naked, and my head was already coming up with the worst possible scenario, but I tried not to think about it right now. Instead, I fired right away, just as they turned to look at me. The one holding her down fell backwards and landed dead on the ground. Lara looked confused over her shoulder, while I turned to the other. I fired again, but hit him in the shoulder, before he pulled his gun and fired at me, getting me in the side of the stomach, and making me stumble back.
He fired again, just as I took shelter behind the wall, the bullets going into the door and the wall right in front of me. Soon though, it got quiet, and I feared what had happened to Lara.
"Come out!" I suddenly heard him shout.
I didn't move though.
"I got your little half-blood mate!"
Fuck ...
I slowly inched around the wall, until I was looking into the dark room again, and there she was, wearing only her thin underwear, looking slightly bruised, and with a gun pressed to her temple. Dammit, wasn't this what she had always feared? Wasn't this why she had tried running from me? She knew what kind of trouble I would bring her. How the hell did I save her from this?
"Drop the gun," he said.
I did as he said.
"And remove the rest of your weapons."
I gritted my teeth but did as he told me. Lara watched me with tears streaming down her eyes, yet she didn't really let out any sobs. She tried to remain strong even with a gun to her temple and the man's hand tightly wrapped around her arm. I bet he was hurting her a little.
"You aren't getting out of here," I said, as I stood up, after putting all my guns on the ground.
"Really?" he asked confidently.
I nodded.
"You didn't think I came alone, did you?"
He didn't answer me, but I saw the confidence disappear a little.
"Arianna is already taken care of. She won't protect you."
He just continued to stay silent, as I spoke.
"Just hand her over," I said. "And we will let this slide."
As if! He is dead for even touching her!
My wolf was right. This man was dead. He had tried, if he had not succeeded already, to rape my mate. I would not allow such a thing to go unpunished, and only death would make me feel like justice had been served. No one put their hands on my little sweet mate, who was trying to be so brave right now. I could see her inner strength had been shaken now, and she was scared out of her mind. When we got out of this, she might just need some professional help.
"And I should just take your word for it?" the vampire asked.
I nodded.
"The word of a king means a lot," I said.
The vampire was clearly thinking it over, and it gave me an advantage.
"All my guns are right there," I said and pointed to the floor. "I will even come to you. We can trade places, just let me have her, though."
The vampire looked at Lara, who just kept her sweet blue eyes on me, trying her best not to shake.
"Okay, we are trading places."
I nodded, and I took a step into the room. We started to circle each other slowly, so we could take each other's places. The room wasn't very big, and I had to step over the dead vampire before I finally found myself where the other vampire and Lara had just been standing. Lara tried pulling herself free, as she was now at the door with the vampire, but he wasn't letting her go so easily.
