Brenna giggled when Roman lifted her and tossed her onto the bed.
He stripped them before getting them comfortable on the mattress. She was about ready to fall asleep when he asked if she wanted anything out of the car.
She jerked up. “Oh, God, I need my purse to call my friends. I’m supposed to check in with them. They’re probably panicking.”
“Stay here. I’ll go get it.”
When Roman got back with her purse, she dug through it for her phone and dialed Nicole.
“Hey.”
“Where the hell have you been? I’ve been worried sick. First, Simone disappears, and then you don’t check in,” Nicole screamed.
“I’m sorry. I’ll explain it all later. Tell me about Simone.”
“She left the day after you did and was headed toward Wolf Creek. She should have been there already, and she didn’t call to tell me she was there like she was supposed to.”
“I’ll check around and see if anyone has seen her. We’ll find her, Nicole, I promise. Let me call you right back.”
“I’m on the road and should be there in the next five hours.”
“Okay, be careful.”
“I will.”
Brenna dropped her phone on the mattress.
“What’s the matter?”
“We don’t know where one of our friends is. She was supposed to come here, but she should have been here hours ago and called us.”
“I’ll get in touch with my brother. Don’t panic yet, baby.”
She nodded and watched as Roman made the call. She couldn’t hear everything he was saying, but she did hear the wordcar.
God, she’d never forgive herself if something happened to Simone because of her.
“Okay, thanks,” Roman said and then faced her.
She knew from his expression that it wasn’t good.
“Okay, baby, they found Simone’s car about five miles out of town.”
“Where is she?”
“They don’t know.”
Brenna pressed her hands to her face. “Oh, God. What if he got her?”
Roman sat down beside her and wrapped an arm aroundher shoulders. “We’ll figure this out. Hunter is having a few wolves search. Hopefully, they’ll be able to smell her scent and follow it.”
“What can we do?”
“Nothing, pet. Hunter will keep us up-to-date with everything. He didn’t know she was your friend, or he would have called us before.”
She wrapped her arms around his waist and cried, praying for them to find her quickly.
