But Amabella is that field in spring a lord from the underworld requires.

I crave her.

My darkest, darkest craving.

“You’re pretty today,” I murmur, admiring her in her tight sweater and even tighter pants that show just how perfectly rounded her thighs are. “Did you get all dolled up for me?”

Nodding, she pulls my face down. “Everything I do is for you, Nate,” she whispers. “Kiss me, please...”

Her lips are swollen in the morning and taste of her spearmint toothpaste and I hold her lightly in my arms as I explore the seam of her lips. She moans and inwardly I smirk. What a silly, little thing she is at times. I’ve never even put my tongue in her mouth, just brushed my lips over hers but it’s more than enough for her and not nearly enough for me.

I don’t want to scare her though, needing to take my time because of how inexperienced she is. After all, I don’t want her body or mind to break. Sighing, she pulls away, looking at me with hopeful eyes and I take a step back from her when I hear people moving upstairs.

The rest of the house doesn’t know what we’re up to. I prefer it that way. It’s easier.

Some things are simply meant to be kept in the dark.

For the comfort of everyone involved.

Sitting in the living room, I watch Amabella over the rim of my wine glass. She’s curled up on the couch, watching a documentary about George Washington and it’s obvious she’s not interested. She fidgets, letting out sighs of impatience while glancing at me with hunger in her eyes. I’m amused. I adore her little tantrums when she can’t get enough of me but I don’t do anything about it other than wait for her to crack.

A couple of minutes later, she does and she rises, flicking her hair back and wrings her hands. “Nate?” she says and the conversation in the room stops, three pair of eyes turning to her and she gulps. “If you don’t have anything better to do, I was thinking I could show you the surroundings. There are tons of little trails around here...”

“Get yourself your own friends and stop trying to take mine,” Bryce scowls and Amabella floods with jealousy. I let out a calming laugh, making peace between them as always and I get up.

“Actually I wouldn’t mind some fresh air,” I say and Dean clears his throat.

“You’re too polite, Nate. Don’t feel forced to do anything you don’t want just because Amabella asked you.”

Inwardly I snort. Do they really think I’d rather spend time with them than her? And I’m tempted to punish them for failing to see that I’m about to corrupt their beautiful girl. My tongue slides over my teeth because I can’t wait to have her the way I want to.

“Sorry but someone’s gotta break it to you, sis,” Bryce says and I frown. “Nate doesn’t want you, okay? He’s way outta your league so why don’t you stop skimping around in the slutty outfits, knock it off with the bedroom eyes and stop embarrassing me.”

Amabella turns white in the face and Dean coughs in surprise.

“You’re so mean!” Amabella says, stomping her foot as anger flares in her eyes. “What did I ever do to you?”

Bryce starts barking at her between his teeth but I raise my hands, murmuring, “Easy, Bryce. She didn’t do anything wrong. Your sister’s just trying to be friendly.”

Sulking, Bryce leans back in his seat and picks up his phone. “A little too friendly,” Bryce mutters but I urge Amabella to ignore him and we leave the house. Amabella shudders already on the porch and pulls up the zipper to her chin. Turning her face to me, she murmurs,

“Can you believe him?”

“Forget about it,” I suggest and she smiles, saying that she will and we cross the courtyard, continuing down a trail. “So did you really just want to go for a walk or did you want to be alone with me?” I ask and she squeals and throws herself around my neck.

Wrapping my arms around her, I chuckle and bury my face in her hair. She smells of floral shampoo and frost and I allow myself to hold her tighter and my coat has nothing on her warmth. It breaks past all kinds of fabrics and all kinds of barriers. Looking up at me, she breathes,

“I thought we’d never end up alone.” She licks her lips. “Maybe we should tell them what’s going on between us.”

“And what exactly is it you think is going on between us?”

Red in the face, she stares at me, her eyes darting. “I thought...I was hoping that maybe you l...liked me...”

“Sch...I only asked because I wanted to know if we feel the same.” But I’m disappointed. I wanted her to say she loves me but she’s holding back for whatever reason. “And let’s wait a little while before we tell your family.”

Amabella nods, pulling away but I still have her in my grip. I can tell by the way she looks up at me in adoration and squeezes my hand as we walk down the trail and she muses, “We’re such a cute couple,” she laughs and I stroke my hand down her hair, petting that glossy mane of hers. “I love that about us.”
