He made a strangled noise in the back of his throat and pushed away from the desk. “This conversation is over. Your brother would kill me if he knew I’d told you as much as I have.”

“Thank you,” she said. “For treating me like an adult. You can’t imagine how frustrating my life can be.”

He gave her a crooked smile, finally meeting her gaze. “Well, I’m glad you came and let me know you were all right. If you’ll excuse me, I must now go and speak to the purveyor of these filthy photos and see if he knows anything about what happened to Polly.”

“You’re going there? Where they take these photos?” she asked, a strange excitement surging through her.

“Yes, if they haven’t packed up and moved the operation by now. I’ve been meaning to shut them down for a while, but it hasn’t been high on my list of priorities.” He gazed meaningfully at the piles and piles of paperwork on his desk. “There just aren’t enough hours in the day, Princess.”

“Thank you,” she said again. “For taking time out of your day to speak to me.”

“Anytime,” he said, putting his hand on the small of her back and spinning her toward the door. “Be safe.”

“You too,” she murmured, letting him lead her down the hall toward the lobby where Heather and Joseph waited.

When he’d seen her to her companions, he nodded briskly, then headed back to his office. Allison stared after him, her mind spinning with everything she’d learned and the beginnings of a daring plan.
