We all say our goodbyes, and I watch as they drive away.

“That whole situation is a mess,” Karly sighs. “That baby is adorable, though. She makes my ovaries hurt.”

I laugh, “You want to try to make one?”

Her face falls, and I realize what I just said.

“Shit, Kar. That came out wrong.”

She smiles softly, “It’s alright. I just wish I could give you all those things one day. You know, one day far off, cause slow and steady.”

I can’t help but chuckle, “Slow and steady isn’t really our vibe. You can put it off all you want, but you know damn well you belong here. And as far as the baby-making thing goes, it’s our story. Things might not happen the textbook way, but they’ll happen our way, and our way is my favorite.”

She grabs my arm, pulling me into a kiss. One that I swear I’d stay wrapped up in forever if given a chance.

“Wait,” I whisper, pulling away. “I have a gift for you.”

Her brow twists as I pull her behind me into the bedroom, and she eyes the wrapped box on the bed.

“What is it?” She asks.

“Open it,” I instruct, dropping her hand and tipping my head toward the box.

She pulls the pieces of ribbon away, and the box falls open, her face breaking into the biggest smile I think I’ve ever seen.

“LIMP DUCK!”

She bursts into laughter, picking the pathetic-looking stuffed animal up, picking at its missing eye.

“I saved him for you.”

She sets him down on the bed and hugs me. “I never wanted to give him back.”

“I know you didn’t.”

Her eyes sparkle, and she turns her lips into a devilish grin, “We could always practice the whole baby-making thing… I mean, you never know.”

And we do. We practice.

A lot.

The End.
