She looks like a kid just handed a double-decker chocolate cake. Her mouth is practically watering for information. “It doesn’t look like nothin’.”

“It’s new. It’s barely even a thing.”

“Girl, he’s eating breakfast here and leaving you in his clothes.”

I try my best to change the subject, “This could be my sweatshirt. Oversized hoodies are all the fad nowadays.”

She rolls her eyes, “Stop deflecting. You have a boyfriend.”

“I do not have a boyfriend.”

“So it’s just sex?” She smiles. “Oh my God, you little slut.”

I shush her and drag her into my room, away from Ellie. “Would you stop! It’s not like that.”

“What is it like then?”

“It’s I don’t know… Casual.”

She raises her brow, “Casual?”

“Yeah,” I admit. “It’s literally brand new.”

“What’s he like?” She asks, jumping onto the foot of my bed.

Oh my God. Could this get any worse?

“He’s sweet,” I gush, “And tall, and smart, and has the body of a greek god.”

“Ahh!” She squeals with excitement, “That sounds nothing like Ashton!”

“Oh, he’s nothing like him. Like the polar opposite, really.”

“Well, I wanna meet him.”

I lean against the doorway with my arms crossed. My mind screams, YOU ALREADY HAVE.

“Well, let me at least make sure it’s a thing first.”

She nods, biting her lip with a smile, “Oh, it’s a thing. I can tell. You’ve not been this flustered since Ben McCarthey asked you for your number in Chem lab.”

I wave her off, “Shut up. It wasn’t that bad.”

“You tripped over your own feet, fell into the metal table, and broke three beakers.”

I cringe at the memory. Ben McCarthey ended up being a nightmare. I walk across the room, drawing her attention to my vanity, “Oh my God, Karly! Is that limp duck? How on earth do you still have that thing!”

She jumps off the bed and picks it up, picking at its missing plastic eye.

“Oh, that? I just found that yesterday in my closet. Meant to toss it.”

She shrugs, tossing it over her shoulder back onto my bed.

“Well, we better get going so you can make your class. Tell Mr. Casual I look forward to meeting him.”

I roll my eyes, practically pushing her out the door, “Yeah, Yeah. Don’t get your hopes up. It’s probably nothing.”

“Oh!” She stops, “Did you ever get Eric to respond to you?”
