“Yes…” Steele said. “I was thinking about that as well. Who’s to say they aren’t interconnected?”
“What? Like they know each other?” I asked, sitting up.
He nodded.
“How would Charlotte know my ex?” I asked.
He shrugged. “She’s resourceful. And with social media these days, any kind of information one may need is easily accessible. Especially for one such as Charlotte.”
I rolled my eyes. “I very much so don’t need another enemy to worry about. But thank you all for the information. I think I’ve heard enough and am pretty certain that I need to leave before more shit hits the fan.”
“Please don’t go,” Steele said.
I glanced at him. “I have to. I have a life I need to get back to. A job I’m in a contract for. Kids who are relying on me to be there for them. I can’t just drop everything and spend the rest of my life in this room with the three of you.”
“Why not?” Dallas asked.
I glared at him.
“It wouldn’t be this room,” Steele said.
“My point is the same,” I said.
“Please make a choice,” Malachi said. “Free at least one of us.”
“I can’t,” I said, feeling overwhelmed with everything. “I’m sorry.”
I understood where the men were coming from, but there was nothing I could do. How could I possibly choose between the three of them when my ex might still show up at any moment and create a whole new level of hell for me to endure? And what was I supposed to do with the information about Charlotte?
I had too much on my plate as it was, and I showed up here for vacation not to be faced with another predicament.
I stand from the bed and approach Steele, “I need to move past you.”
He shook his head.
I groaned and threw myself against the wall and crossed my arms over my chest. These men were going to be the death of me.

STEELE
I frowned as Cassidy slid down the wall to the floor and cover her face with her hands. Seeing her frustration and being unable to do anything about it grated against my nerves. I wanted to make her feel good. I wanted to take her worries away and reassure her that everything was going to be okay.
This whole evening was a mess. And all of it was no thanks to her ex. Still, if I had it my way, she would have been worshipped, not torn apart.
She never should have crossed paths with that monster.
Replaying the image of that man putting his hands on her made my blood boil even more. If I ever got the chance to put my hands on that man again… I would make sure there was nothing recognizable left of him, and he certainly would never be able to touch a woman much less hurt her ever again.
An idea occurred to me, and before I lost my opportunity to act upon it, I stood from the chair, kicking it to the side. But when I looked up toward the room, everyone had settled their gaze on me, each one was filled with varying levels of curiosity.
“I’ll be right back.” I started to turn around and head to the door when Dallas stopped me.
“Where do you think you are going?” he asked.
I turned to face him again. “Does it matter?”
“Yes, it does,” he said. “We’re still in the middle of helping Cassidy with her problem.”
