Cassidy turned her attention to Dallas. “What do you mean?”

Steele sighed. “It means giving you the information you need because Charlotte isn’t going to go down without a fight.”

Cassidy stood up and waved her hands in front of her. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! Who said I was going to fight her?”

“You may not have a choice,” I said. “Charlotte is our boss. And she’s not exactly sane when it comes to people who wrong her.”

“I don’t give a damn about who or what she is. I most certainly have a choice, and I choose not to fight,” she said.

“Sit down, beautiful,” Dallas said. “We have a story to tell and you’re holding it up.”

She glared at him. I snorted. He settled his gaze on me, and I shrugged.

“Someone needs to start explaining,” she demanded.

Dallas smirked. “She hired us to set up women like you.”

“And by hired,” I said, “We really mean we were recruited without a choice.”

“Setup women like me?” she asked, setting her gaze on each of us. “Setup how? I don’t understand. And what do you mean you didn’t have a choice? She forced you into a job?”

“Allow us to explain,” I said, holding up my hands to ward off her endless line of questions.

She sucked in a breath, sat back down on the bed, and then nodded. “Sure. Why not. If we’re going to push our luck, let’s make it a party.”

“Now we’re talking.” Dallas chuckled. “Damn, I love your spunk.”

“I’m glad I amuse you,” she muttered.

Steele added, “She plays a wicked game with a lot of the women who come to this resort. Women who come to the resort alone.”

“You see,” Dallas added. “She hand-picks women to bring to the club. Women who she perceives as unassuming and naïve. Then she has one of the men in her arsenal ensnare them with our charms and the promise of sex.”

“But we would never deliver,” I said. “Because we are forbidden to have sex.”

She shook her head. “But you had sex with me.”

“Exactly,” I said.

Steele added, “We were also supposed to dose your drink with one of her blends of herbs designed to elicit the sensation of euphoria and also prevents you from remembering a thing the following morning.”

“That must not have happened,” she said. “Though I did struggle with remembering everything clearly.”

“That’s because we didn’t give you a full dose,” I said.

“We had never been ones to break rules,” Dallas said and then laughed. “Well, not normally.”

“The consequences are pretty steep for breaking one of Charlotte’s rules,” Steele added.

“But what is the point of all this?” Cassidy asked. “Why go through all the effort?”

“To steal all your money,” I said.

“Occasionally, we have to deal with a boyfriend or a husband,” I said. “Especially if they come a day or two later. But that doesn’t happen all too often.”

She nodded and was silent for several moments. The light in her eyes gave the impression she was slowly piecing everything together. Then she asked. “So, she was just after my money?”

“It’s all a game she plays to keep herself rich,” I said. “And you were, unfortunately, her next victim.”
