Malachi pressed his lips together and shook his head. He turned his gaze to his left. “I wouldn’t let anything happen to her, and you know it.”

“Is that right?” I asked and pointed toward the resort. “Seems to me like you left her pretty open just now.”

“I came here to gather my things and head back,” Malachi snapped, keeping his voice low as to not draw attention to us. “And you’re one to talk. What is going to happen to you when Charlotte finds out you left a client before the job was done?”

I smirked and took a step back. “So, you did see me…”

“Why did you follow me, Dallas? Surely it wasn’t so you could berate me,” he said.

I chuckled. “No. It wasn’t.”

“You should go back to your client,” he said. “Let me be.”

I shook my head. “I left her to find out what is going on with you. You aren’t dressed like you are working… not that you have been to work in a few days, the busy body you are.”

Malachi turned his attention to the resort and his eyebrows drew together. As I waited for him to respond to my comments, he slapped my arm with the back of his hand and nodded toward the resort.

I turned to face the glowing lights and saw what had drawn Malachi’s attention. Steele was forcefully escorting some guy out of the resort. It wasn’t unusual to see things like angry husbands or boyfriends every once in a while, but still… “We should go check that out.”

“Yes,” he said. “We should.”

We exchanged a glance and I gestured for him to lead the way. With a huff, he stepped forward. I followed along a few paces after him.

Before long, we stopped in the hall and watched as he stepped into Cassidy’s room.

“What do you suppose is going on?” I asked.

“There’s only one way to find out,” Malachi said as he continued toward her door.

Once we stood outside of her room, staring at her door, I huffed. “What are we waiting for?”

Malachi shrugged.

I shook my head and knocked on the door. Seconds later, Steele answered, glaring at the two of us.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

“We were thinking of asking the same thing of you,” I said.

“That is a long story,” he said. He switched his glare to Malachi. “I have a bone to pick with you.”

Malachi shrugged. “Get in line.”

I chuckled. “Good one.”

Steele stepped to the side, and we stepped in. I glanced into the bathroom, finding Cassidy looking less than her glamorous self.

“What did I miss?” I asked and glared at Malachi. “What did you do?”

He held up his hands. “I had nothing to do with whatever is going on here.”

“Uh-huh,” I said.

“Would you two shut up and sit down already?” Steele chided.

I threw my hands up in surrender and sat on the foot of the bed while Malachi lounged at the head of the bed, back against the headboard, and legs crossed at the ankle. My attention returned to Steele.

“We’re waiting,” I said.
