Soon, another release hit, and I cried into the blanket as my body melted to the mattress. Malachi grunted against me as he continued to slam into me over and over again, sending me deeper into ecstasy.

“I don’t hear my name,” he said.

I couldn’t speak let alone think clearly.

“Say it,” he demanded.

“M-m-m,” I said but my mouth wouldn’t cooperate.

“Say my name, Cassidy,” he said again.

“Malachi,” I screamed.

He chuckled darkly. “I told you.”

His fingers dug into my hips, steadying me as he shifted his movements. He hardened even more inside me, and his fingers dug deeper into my skin. Seconds later, his movements became jerky and stiffer. Then hot liquid spilled into me as he grunted and slowed in his movements.

Once his release had finished, he leaned over me and kissed the skin on my back.

“That was wonderful, my dear,” he said and fell to the mattress.

I sighed and collapsed onto my side next to him. “That it truly was.”

“We may have to buy the neighbors an apology gift,” he said.

“Meh,” I said. “They will live.”

Malachi rolled over and wrapped me in his arms. As our breaths returned to normal, I fell into my thoughts. And it struck me as odd that I felt whole. For the first time in a long while. Being worshiped by him felt amazing and it was better than the sex from the other night.

I didn’t know what this new development meant, but I was never so happy to have bumped into Malachi.

I felt at peace. My eyes grew heavy and within minutes, I allowed them to close and felt my body being pulled into the darkness.

* * *

Sudden bangingon the door jarred me from my blissful sleep. It was so loud and forceful. I almost forgot where I was. Once I realized I was still in the hotel room of the resort and spa I had booked for myself, I frowned. I was having some of the best sleep in my life.

Either I had a seriously angry neighbor, or the cops were at my door. Because the only other person I knew who would knock like that wasn’t around here. It was impossible for him to be.

Still, the idea of the slight possibility it could have been him made my heart skip a beat. I reached for Malachi, finding only bedding. I settled my eyes on the spot he had laid before I fell asleep, finding him long gone. His side of the bed had grown cold, missing his body heat.

The banging happened again, and I groggily scooted out of bed and headed to the bathroom where the complimentary robe was hanging up. I pulled it on and stepped to the door as the banging pounded one more time.

“Hold your fucking horses,” I snapped. “I’m coming.”

I peeked through the peephole, finding nothing but black. I frowned. Whoever was on the other side of the door didn’t want me to know who they were.

That was another thing that Xander would do. But I tried to tell myself it was ridiculous for him to drive all the way out here. It was impossible for him to know where I was.

Whoever the person was, they beat against the door again. I pulled the door open enough for me to look out and glare at the person on the other side. And I really wish I hadn’t done that.

The second my eyes fell onto my ex, the door was forced open, breaking the door from the chain lock, and sending me stumbling back several steps.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked. “Get out!”

He shook his head. His brown eyes had turned impossibly dark. They were almost black as they took in everything around me. “She said I would find you here.”

“Who?” I asked. “Who told you I was here, Xander? I know it wasn’t Gemma so you can get that excuse out of your head.”
