“Aye, aye,” Darach responded. “I appreciate ye more for giving me a woman whose value kens nae bounds.”

Jane exclaimed softly and looked Darach in the eyes. Her smile lit up the entire room as she bolted up, clasped his face between her hands, and kissed him on the lips. A chorus of applause erupted from the crowd. Even Morven looked amused.

Darach could barely remember his own name when Jane pulled away. He began mentally counting down the hours until they were finally alone.

In the meantime, he held Jane close to himself. She smiled and leaned into him, pressing her soft curves to his side. His body immediately grew aroused, and he realized it was only a matter of time before he wouldn’t be able to resist ravishing her whole.

So, he sat and grew more anxious by the moment. As soon as Jane appeared to have finished eating, he began thinking of a way to sneak out with her.

“Seems we've held a successful feast, dear?” Darach asked.

She gave a wistful smile. “Aye.”

“Would ye rather dance or… come with me?”

Her eyes lit up, and the smile on her lips spread further. “I had never taken much tae dancing. I'm probably quite clumsy.”

“I'm nae exceedingly graceful myself,” Darach muttered.

“Leave the dance tae the guests. Let's retire tae what we can both enjoy more.” The smile on her face was so pure and full of love that he vowed to himself then and there that he would never do anything to make it disappear.

They sneaked away from the table and headed toward the wide doorway of the hall.

Their first night as husband and wife was awaiting.

THE HIGHLAND BRIDE’S TALE

CHAPTERONE

“Bend over and take it, lass!” a deep voice ordered someone, tearing into the stillness of the castle. Eilidh Barclay shrunk against the cold stone wall and hissed for how thinly cad she was. Tracing her fingers along the wall, she backed away from the door from where the command had come.
